The Fire Association-
The’adjourned meeting of the Marlbo
io' Fire Association was held at the Court
House on k Tuesday evening, for the purpose j
<f hearing the report of the committee ap
pointed at the previous meeting to solicit sub
scriptions, Ac , for procuring a fire apparatus ,
fi r the town. Mr. C. C. Magrudcr. president,
occupied tlie chair, and Mr. Joseph S. W il
sou acted as .Secretary. The committee,
through Mr. George W- Wilson, its chairman,
repoi ted that they had called upou the County
Cuininiasioiiers, who agieed to appropriate
$l5O towards the purchase of a truck, ladders
and buckets. The committee further reported
that the County Commissioners had passed
an order, at .heir solicitatio. , appropriating
$l5O for the purpose of purchasing file exlin-
guUliiug apparatus for the protection of the
Court House, payable to the treasurer of th-
Matlboro’ Fue Association. Besides these
timouuts, $lO2 50 was subscribed by iudivid- ,
nai membeis of the Association, so that the
total amount of available funds in the hands j
f the club is already $402 50, snd we hope |
ihat other donations may soon be ieceivd in ;
order that a ccnnlete and serviceable equip
ment may lie proem ed and a house erected for
its accommodation. A motion was then made
that a committee of five he appointed to have
built, or to purchase, truck, and to procure
tour Chemical Extinguishers with necessary
Uddeis, buckets, lanterns, pick-head axes. Ac.
a member of the said Committee to be one of
the Town Commissioners. The following
gentlemen a eie appoint ed by the chairman :

- On Tuesday even'ug laat.juetaf er night- I

Town and caused another little panic amour ■
uur citizens. It proved to be a burning cliim
ney on Ihe residence of James Sedgwick, col- |
ored. Through a defective stovepipe the ,
flames got a start in an upper room, and be j
f >re they could le extinguished a bed and
mattress were-badly burned. A good deal of >
damage was done by water, and Ihe heavy i
smoke that filled the building helped in no j
little degree to injure Ihe property. The pa- '
tent Fire Extinguisher was brought to the j
scene of tlie conflagration but, fortunately, iis )
services were not needed. Tlie loss is esti
mated at SSO; ihe property was insured.

The Register of Wills has paid into
the State Treasury 5427 30 tax on com- ;
missions to executors and administra
tors ; $719 03 tax on collateral inliwri- i
lances, making a total of $1,14- 23,
which is an increase of $345 39 over last :
year. The total receipts of tlie Register
of Wills office was $1,584 25.
The County Treasurer has paid the ■
following amounts on account of Stale
taxes,
$6,500; Total $12,599.
The total receipt* of tlie States Attor-.
ney was $1,189 99, a decrease of *531 59
from last year.
Mr. O. Robey, Sheriff, paid to the State
S3O on account of fine* and forfeitures.
Tlie receipts from State Tobacco Ware
house No. 1, Capt. Edward Magnifier,
inspector, amounted to $12,557 8 s and
the expenditures for the same were
$12,557 0-8. The expenses of running
this warehouses are divided as follows;

emic Fund, $1,690; Agricultural College,
SO,BBI 4' of Reformation for colored
children, $10,900.

Mr. Augustus M. Bowling, of llusho
• ville, Charles county, obtained a verdict in
the City Court on Wednesday for $l2O agains l
Mr. John F. Hunter, of Bal imoie. About
i two years ago Mr. Hunter agiced to sell Mr.
Bowling a carriage fot $159 and take a vein
cle from Mr. Bowling in exchange at a valua
t on of slo9. Mr. Bowling to pay $-50 in cash.
Mr. Bowling sent his vehicle to Baltimore,
| and it was rejected by Mr. Hunter, although
| he had sent an employe to Charles county to
( examine it. Mr. Hunter claimed the arrange
