Leona and Roberta of West Chester, I’a., are spending the holidays with their father, Mr. John Rawlings of near Rowlandville. A delightful social evening was spent at the home of Mrs. Rebecca Hall of Rowlandville, Friday, December 14th, in honor of her son Alonzo’s eighteenth birthday. The evening was spent in social intercourse and games among them ‘‘Love in the dark” being a special feature and well patronized by the young folks. * * WEST NOTTINGHAM. Christmas was celebrated very quietb here. We wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year. There will be held the annual social at the Manse on New Year’s eve, to watch ‘O6 disappear and usher in ’O7. Mrs. Annie Tosh is improving and is able to be down stairs again. Cooley Nickle's horse ran away with him Tuesday evening and threw him from the vehicle near A. J. Michener’s lane. He became entangled in the mash up and was dragged a considerable dis tance and as a result is very badly hurt. Mrs Palmer and daughter, Mary, spent Christmas at her brother’s, near Zion. Wm. T. Fryer entertained his brother, Samuel and family, and A. T. Wiley and family on Xmas. Burton Wiley is home for the holidays from New Jersey where he is employed as teacher. Mrs. Jos. He has a position at Jersey City. Isaac Yocum and family, Johu Sebold and daughter Mary, spent Sunday with Mr. Sebold’s father at Cherry Hill. Two of our young men who are keep ing bachelor's hall decided to have a joint duck dinner on Xmas. They pre pared the ducks and cooked them and / invited some of their friends to share the feast. Their culinary skill was pro nounced first class. OXFORD AND VICINITY. Grip has appeared in town. Fox and coon hunts are still all the go. But neither one equals the hunt for farm hands or cash. One of Howard Taylor’s youngsters has a pair of mink hides for which he was offered the sum oi tea dollars. The offer was refused. A country bouse wife was offered 8 cents per pound for her roosters by her weekly market man. She declared she’d eat them before she’d sell them for that and during the week sold them in Oxford at 12 cent per. When the huckster made his appearance the week following he was appraised of the fact. That’s nothing, says he, 1 got 16 cents for mine. Mr. Farmer! Don’t you think it’s soon time you are waking up? Baker Spencer a prominent farmer of East Nottingham while adjusting a belt on bis cir cular saw withdrew his right hand too near the “silver streak” severing the knuckles of three fingers which for the rest of his days Mr. Spencer will have little use tor. Doctors Barry and Mackey rendered medical attention. Henry Bushong the “hoss dealer” has added new quarters tor the stock used in his increasing business. John O’Connel has a shingle making machine in his woods, knocking out the "top ‘pieces” faster than he can sell them. The Oxford hotel will lengthen .its bar. The treasurer of the town wiL increase his "bar ot justice receipts’* for the year ot liOT, accoraingly. Your correspondent desires to extend to your readers a vigorous wish for a most happy and prosperous New Year, especially to the following: To President Roosevelt, for poor fellow he doesn't know what’s in Storer for nim. To William Jennings Bryan, because in with drawing the spikes from the democratic platform we tear he will be on his knees, too close to the edge. To the Governor of Pennsylvania for in the efforts that be nut forth in making the penny u niile run to the new capitol at Harrisburg, a s uccess, he was truly a peuuy-packer. To Louis H. Hitchler, editor of the Oxford News. Though he has deserted “(linger” for red pepper we hope his excuse for doing so will not prove to be as lame as his leg. To William J. Kearney. May he yet realize that after all it is perhaps better to burn out than to rust out. To W. B. Cooney and may it lx; continued to be said that he was never “foxy” in his dealings. To Frank Lemmon We take it for granted that he is well aware that the leader of our nation is against race-suicide and that there is a possibility of their being a small crop of Lemons next year. To Emerson Pitt. We trust that a most suc cessful business will still enable him from get ting in a hole. To Duyckinck, Sterrett and Co. May their business continue to win in the race over that which fast as a warehouse. To John C. Hindman. And may be be fore man over many more sales- To Postmaster Hambleton. If he would stop to think he would known that it was “a trip” tbut made Adam responsible for the tall of man. ToWilmer Bird. May life be ever one sweet song. To Haines Job. May he never be out of a job. To Squire Taylor of Rising Sun. Men who have expressed their fellings too Ireely and have been “carried away” with themselves have all felt the hand of Mr. Taylor’s law and all vouch safe in declaring him a •fine” fellow. To the mother w ith their First Born—May they ever be able to hold their own. To the editors of the Mipland Journal! It any one should ask the Ewing boys it they ever , kept” bees they should get a negative reply, t Who ever beard of an editor who could afford to live on htfudy. Most people know that if they have *o* been sick they need Scott's Emul sion to bring back health and strength. S 4* But the strongest point about Scott's 4 Emulsion is that you don’t have to be sick to get results from it. Q It keeps up the athlete's strength, puts fat £ Sj on thin people, makes a fretful baby happy, Q jQi brings color to a pale girl’s cheeks, and pre- g 4* vents coughs, colds and consumption.
