German armies have moved into the Rhineland, and their enemies of 1914 again have the ‘jitters.” The Allies are tcaming up and the League of Nations will go into action to decide what can be done about the matter. In the mean time, France sends an army of 300,000- men up to the famous river. | There will be no war, if one is to judge from the tener of the foreign news flashes. But the fact remains that only a river seperates a half million soldiers armed with every conceivable death dealing machine. All of them have “itchy” fingers at a time like this. The situation from this side of the ocean does not look so good. Those half million soldiers are not along the banks} of the Rhine for the purpose of picking daisies. They are there ‘““just in case.” And, “just in case” you have forgot ten, we had enough war some years ago. We were persuaded to cast our Ilot with the Allies for the “moral effect” it would have on the Kaiser, and his goose stepping armies, After that we were “touched” for twenty billions of cold cash to bolster up the, depleted money bags. And then came the call for men to put over the smashing blow and “make the world safe for Democracy.” It is NOT on record that our declara tion of war caused Germany to imme diately offer peace terms. It IS on record that the Allies weleched on their debts and took us for a beautiful ride. It is also on record that the world is just abtout as safe for democracy now as it was twenty years ago, and all we have to show for the pathetic pleas of Europe are memories of our herocs who fell in Flanders Field. if our former Alliez are uader the impreossion that they will get help “com us, they might just as well learn now their mistake. If they want to fight, it will be O. K. with Unecle Sam. We ar: staying out of it and the first Con gressman or Senator who suggests that we help the “oppressed’” should be given free passage to the front lines—alone. And as for sclling munitions to the warring nations, we place our stamp of approval on the late Will Rogers plan of “Cash and Carry.” | AN ASSET - President Roos~velt’s hicgest asset in ‘ the coming campaign will be the Ameri can Liberty League. e i i i i ANNOUNCEMENT'!
