The Roy case which is now be fore the district court on a writ of habeas corpus, may settle the jurisdiction of the State courts over citizen Indians on this reser vation, definatcly. It is contended by the Indian agent that the state courts have no jurisdiction over this reservat ion or the Indians even though the latter may be citizens. Johnson and Carman, of Detroit, who are the attorneys for the Roys, contend that the state courts have jurisdiction over this reser vation and over all classes of citi* zens thereon, and in support of this will submit briefs this week to Judge Searles of St. Cloud, beforo whom the case was brought, and the United States attorney will submit a brief in behalf of the agents contension. We cannot believe that Judge Searles will hold otherwise than that the state courts havo jurisdic tion, for a ruling by him to the contrary would bo in opposition to the decisions heretofore made by the supremo court of this State* In any event, it will undoubted ly be held that either the State ot United State courts havo jurisdic tion over this reservation, and therefore the officials cannotcjeStfc tho responsibility of unlawfully imprisoning members of this res- To our kindred and fellow- by Red and White Orators Canoe neibors we extend cheerful greet- Races Games Great Sham tag: Battle of two hundred on a side Once again the Great Spirit has Indian Pony and Foot Races, permitted the Ojibways to add an- Music by the White Earth Indian other year to the anniversary of Band.
