Page 2 I STURGEON LAKE Mrs. M. M. Barnes visited at the Twin Cities over Thanksgiving. She returned home Sunday. A hard time dance was held in the church hall last Thursday night. A large crowd attended and a good time was reported. Music was fur nished by local bors. The snow that fell Sunday checked for a time the good skating condi tions on the lakes. Although quite a little snow came down it did not pile up to any extent and consequent ly the roads did not get blocked for auto travel any place. It is reported that Lillie Ryden, youngest daughter of Emil Ryden, re siding four miles west of here, was married to Lep Matson, of Moose Lake Saturday, November 24th. The newlyweds are making their home at Moose Lake. DENHAM Don’t forget the donation sale held at the Oak Hill church Friday even ing, Dec. 7. Lunch will be served after the sale. Miss Anne Olson motored to Wal nut Grove Wednesday of last week to spend Thanksgiving day with her parents. Miss Olson returned Friday accompanied by her sister. Lillian Ol son. Miss Lillian spent the wek-end at the F. L. Olson home, leaving Sun day for Ely, where she is one of the high school faculty. Miss Ethel Johnson spent Thanks giving vacation in the Twin Cities, returning Sunday. Mrs. Ed Wenberg will entertain the Swede Park Ladies' Aid Monday af- ternoon, Dec. 10. Everybody is wel come. The Royal Neighbors of America, will meet at the John Nelson home Wedesday, Dec. 12. Their annual election of officers will be held at that time. All members are urged to be present. Anderson Bros, installed a new six tube Crossley radio in the John Hys ka home last week. Mr. and Mrs. Standish and daugh ters, Dorothy, Adelia, and June, and Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Hatleli and family, Ed Hatleli, Miss Hoppe, and F. John son were dinner guests at the L. O. Hatleli home Thanksgiving day. The Nordland Ladies' Aid will meet at the O. Wallin home Saturday af ternoon, Dec. 18th. Everybody wel come. John Kroon left for Minneapolis last Saturday to attend the funeral of his mother which took place that day. Sam Kroon was unable to at tend as he was confined to bed with the flu. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Anderson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Jons Johnson were guests at the Geo. Johnson home Sunday. Miss Mae Upgren spent Thanksgiv ing visiting relatives and friends at Cloquet, returning home Sunday. Sam Kroons are driving a new Ford Tudor purchased from Anderson Bros. Miss Florence Johnson left for St. Paul Wednesday evening of last week, to spend Thanksgiving vacation with her parents. She was unable to re turn Monday and resume her school work on account of illness. The flu is claiming many victims in this community. The school at tendance is poor, due to sickness at the various homes. Geo. Kosloski made a business trip to Minneapolis Tuesday. He was ac companied by the Misses Helen Price and Amy Stepan. Everyone is invited to attend a bas ket and .pie social given by the Nord land Luther League at the Norwegian Lutheran church, Wednesday evening, Dec. 12. Ladies please bring pies or baskets. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barton drove to Frederic Friday, the latter having dental work done. Miss Katy Young returned Satur day, after spending Thanksgiving with her sister in Frederic. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Lund and fam ily and Jim Pahos had Thanksgiving dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Pahos. Clifford Oman visited with his par ents a few days of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Oman and family spent last Thursday evening in Du luth. Harry Sandahi drove to Webster Monday to consult a doctor. A game of basketball was played Friday evening at the hall, Markvillc vs. Kingsdale. The score was 13 to 13. Mr. and Mirs. Nordquist had Thurs day dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Oman. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barton mo tored to Denham to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dobesh. Mr. and Mrs. Richardson and Mr. and Mrs. Evenson motored to Minong last Thursday to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schmitz. Miss Freda Seilitz went to Minne apolis Monday to visit with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Videen and family had Thanksgiving dinner with the Feigum family. Henry Java and family from Dairy land, moved into town last week. Mr. and Mrs. W. Smythe spent last Thursday with Mrs. Benson. The dance given at the hall last Thursday evening was well attended. Everyone had a good time. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nelson and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. S. Hedin and family and Mr. Sandahi spent Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. Brogren. Services were held at the Lutheran church Thanksgiving day by Paul Swenson, with a large number pres ent. Mrs. W. Smythe, Mrs. Jones, and Mrs. Meade visited with Mrs. Oman Saturday evening. Miss Martha Nelson went to Clover ton Monday. She will work there. Cloverton was defeated in a game of basketball Sunday afternoon, with a score of 33 to 17. The game was between Kingsdale and Cloverton. | WINDEMERE TOWNSHIP The Misses Hazel Madsen, Lily Thompson. Marion Sanderson, and Gladys Warner spent Thanksgiving at their respective homes. Mr .and Mrs. S. M. Pulling left Friday for Minneapolis, where they visited friends and relatives until Sunday, and then left for their home at Clarissa, Minn. Be sure and attend the leap year social in the Windemere M. E. church next Saturday evening, December 8. Men are requested to bring baskets and the ladies will buy them. Every one 4s welcome. PARK TOWNSHIP Mrs. John Southerton entertained relatives from Breckenridge, the first part of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Martinek are rejoicing over the arrival of a baby boy, born Wednesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Clewitt were pleasantly surprised Wednesday eve ning of last week, by a number of their friends and neighbors, who called on them for the evening. The la dies present served lunch, and Mr. and Mrs. Clewitt were presented with a purse of money. Mr. and Mrs. Sever Flagstad of Bar ron, Wis., were Thanksgiving guests at the home of the latter’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Rudd. Mr. Martinek, Sr., was surprised at his home Saturday evening, the occa sion being his birthday. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Clewitt are spending a tew days at the home of their daughter, Mrs. E. V. Matson. ARTHYDE Miss Elsie Nortrup who is teach ing near Seavey, spent her Thanks giving vacation at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Nortrup. Miss Hulda Johnson, teacher of the upper grades, spent her vacation at her home near Bennetville. Eugene Voltz and Clifford Thom son were callers in Aitkin Wednesday. Pete Peterson was a caller at Ras mussens Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Olson and fam ily were dinner guests at the H. S. Coolidge home on Thanksgiving day. Mr. and Mrs. Eino Lepinen and family spent Thanksgiving day with the John Hendrickson family. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Fenstermaker of Swatara have rented the house on the Nortrup farm and plan to remain here for the winter. Mrs. C. Youngberg of El Ison, spent a few days last week visiting at the John Mullin home. Mr. and Mrs. Mullin, Mrs. Young berg and Pete Peterson spent Thanks giving day at A. Ova’s. Mrs. J. G. Ernmer and daughter, Dorothy, were callers in Willow River Friday. Mrs. L. G. Standish and Miss Hoppe went to Moose Lake Friday, where Miss Hoppe had some dental work done. They returned home Saturday. Pete Peterson and Adolph Ova were business callers in Denham Frio'ay. Mr. and Mrs. Morris Ruud and fam ily visited at the Ova and Thomson homes Sunday. Hjalmar Petersen of the Askov American, was a business caller in the vicinity Wednesday of last week. The Percy Moore family spent Thanksgiving at the home of Mrs. Moore’s sister, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill White, near Duxbury. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bacon ate Thanksgiving dinner with the Wm. Halley family near Sandstone. Mrs. Mudd, Miss Wheeler, and Alva Minks spent Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. August Hessler at Sand Creek. Einar Carlson of Sand Creek, sawed wood last week for Harvey Bacon and the Swanson brothers. Miss Dorothy Kalk spent her vaca tion at her home near Friesland. Harry Hendricks of the Northwest ern Rible school, spent the Thanks giving vacation at home, returning to Minneapolis Sunday. Eric Olson and family who reside near Sandstone, attended Thanksgiv ing services at the Gerda Wheeler home last Thursday evening. Axel Swanson of Minneapolis, spent the Thanksgiving vacation at his home here. Philip Johnson drove to Minneapo lis Sunday. Oscar and Myrtle Johnson returned with him, after spending the Thanksgiving at home. Clarence L. Stauffer and gentleman friend of Rush City, were callers at the Swanson brothers’ home last Sun day evening. Alva Minks is working at the Percy Moore home, completing the building of his sheep house. Miss Elizabeth Swanson spent her vacation at home. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill white of Dux bury, attended Sunday school last Sunday. It’s True. The community dinner given at Ogema hall Thanksgiving day, was well attended, and all enjoyed the din ner immensely. Supper was also served at the hall and nearly every one stayed through the evening, which was spent at cards and games. Mr. Torell is their uncle. Mrs. and son, Robert, Mr. and Mrs. P. Erickson, Alf Erickson, Dorothy Erickson, and Miss Corwin were entertained at the Edwin John son home for Thanksgiving dinner. The school board held a meeting at the school house Friday. Miss Dorothy Erickson and Frida Johnson who are attending high school at Duluth, spent the Thanks giving vacation at home, returning Sunday noon. Harry Mitchell and Miss Cooper stopped to visit the W. J. Mitchells Friday afternoon on their way from the Twin Cities to Duluth. A car of coal for the school house was unloaded here Friday and Sat urday. A number of families took advantage of the opportunity and bought coal for their homes. Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Barquist and children spent Thanksgiving week at the Hedberg home. Winter arrived at a jump and acts as if it was going to stay a while. Chas. Bostrom and George Popa left Wednesday for the eastern part of the county, where they will cut tim ber for Losensky Bros. The church Ladies’ Aid will serve chicken supper Friday evening in the Community hall from 5 o’clock on. Wm. Edin who has been working at his trade as carpenter in the Twin Cities, came home Tuesday to spend part of the winter with the home folks.
