THURSDAY, AUGUST 23, 1934 KERRICK Mrs. R. P. Hogan and Mr. and Mrs. James Dresser were callers here Sun day. S. A. Halverson returned Tuesday from Minneapolis, to load several cars of sand. John Olson has purchased a piece of Land across the road from the Cath olic church and will soon begin build ing a house. Mickey Hogan who spent the past week at home, returned to Minneapo lis Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. John A. Ferguson and the Alcocks of Kenyon, spent a few days recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Ferguson. Funeral services for Wm. LeMay were held in St. Michael's church Saturday morning, Aug. 18, Rev. Ed ward O’Reilly of Carlton, officiating. Interment took place at Nickerson. Keith Hogan visited with his grand parents Saturday and Sunday. Several of the local boys attended the Tri-State Fair Monday evening, reporting that they had a very good time. Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Sydow and daughters left Monday evening for the southern part of the state, where they will visit relatives. FINLAYSON Mr. and Mrs. Erick Ahlbom and children, Irene and Erick, Jr., spent Saturday and Sunday visiting rela tives and friends at Grantsburg, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Hoglund visited Sunday with their son, Leonard, and wife at Cambridge, going on Monday to Minneapolis, where they visited their daughter. Hazel, returning home at night. Miss Edna Johnson of Webster City, lowa, came Monday by auto to visit her father, J. F. Johnson, and brother, Cecil Johnson, and family, and sis ters, Mrs. Elmer Dosch and family, and Mrs. Norman Rockwell. She was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. R. Luther, who are visiting relatives at Bruno. They will all return home Fri day. Mrs. Charles Hellman who was at the University hospital for four weeks, following a serious operation, was able to be moved to the home of her daughter. Mrs. Chas. Bukkila, Friday. She is able to be up and hopes to be home in about two weeks. Relatives at the Hollis Ladd home a week ago Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Sigrid Tomty and family of Minne apolis, and on Monday and Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Pape and family of Lucan. Mr. and Mrs Carl Braun and daugh ter, Carol, of Hutchinson, .spent Sun day with Mrs. Braun's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William DeGroff. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stockamp and children and Mr. and Mrs. Julius Kraetzner and family were Sunday dinner guests at the Cecil Johnson home. Mr. and Mrs. Delaney and family were guests at the Ed Carlson home Sunday afternoon. Mrs. John B. Willie left a week ago Sunday for Minneapolis, where she visited her daughter and is in Hud son, Wis., this week visiting another daughter. At the last meeting of the Pine River Community Club it was decided not to have a fair this fall but to plan for some other entertainment to take its place. The 4-H Club achieve ment day will be carried out, however, as planned and the date will be an nounced Later. Mrs. A. Tompeau and son, Lester, of St. Paul, visited Mrs. S. B. Ryan Saturday and Sunday. Miss Evelyn Hannu, who works in Duluth, spent last week with her mother, Mrs. Hilma Hannu. The first week of her vacation was spent at the Finnish Bible camp north of Duluth. Her aunt, Mrs. Enock Maki, also at tended. Roy Hannu accompanied his sister to Duluth Monday to spend this week at the Maki home. Miss Celia Korpi returned Sunday from a two weeks vacation and is back at her work at the Finlayson Mercantile Co. store. She accompa nied H. G. Hildebrand of Beroun, and his parents of Northfield, on a week’s trip to the Chicago Fair, spending the second week with relatives and friends in lowa. Armas Hannu drove to Turtle Lake, Wis., Tuesday, accompanied by his sister, Marion, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leander Koski, and Gabriel Mikkola, w;here on Wednesday they attended the funeral services of a friend. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Koski’s daughter, Mrs. John An derson and family w’.hile there. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ryan and daugh ter, Shirley, were Sunday dinner guests at the Mendenhall home. KINGSDALE Mrs. George Pennison returned Wed nesday of last week, from a trip to Winnipeg and Borwick, Canada, and Virginia, Hibbing, Cook and Floren tine, Minn., where she visited with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. A. Videen and fam ily were dinner guests at the C. E. Videen home Sunday. Mrs. C. J. Sliper and Marjorie Mae spent a few' days of last week with relatives in St. Paul. Miss Ellen Pearson returned to her home in St. Paul Tuesday, after visit ing at the C. EL Videen home the past w'eek. Mr. and Mrs. Hartley Pennison and children of Minneapolis, are visiting at their parental homes here for a few days. Mrs. A. Oman and Harriet visited relatives in Cambridge and Grandy over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. P. Cockerham and children of Dairyland, visited at the C. A. Lund home last Thursday. Anna Videen was pleasantly sur prised by her friends Sunday eve ning at her home, the occasion be ing her birthday. The evening was spent in playing games and later a delicious lunch was served. CLOVERDALE Calvyn Kelroy of Carlton, spent the week-end at his parents’ home here. Knute Stromgren of Cedar, was greeting old friends here Wednesday of last week. The Stromgrens are former residents of this community. Mrs. Raymond Voss is visiting the World's Fair in Chicago. Mrs. Einar Norlander, with her in fant son, Alvin Dale, returned to their home here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Orr and son, Leßoy, called at the Carl Swanson home in Hinckley Saturday. Luther League was held Sunday evening. Carlton Berg of Hinckley, gave an inspiring talk. Sunday the following were guests at Arnold Beach’s: Mr. and Mrs. Ar thur Kapauff of Sandstone, and their two nieces from Dresbach; Mr. and Mrs. Emery Wolter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wolter, and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey O’Flanagan and Bobby and David. Paul Pearson of Cushing, is enjoy ing a week's vacation at home, from his banking duties there. Miss Dorothy Abrahamson returned Sunday from Minneapolis, where she spent a week with the E. EL Merri fields. The Tom Wolf family spent Sunday at Conrad Svardahl's near Sand Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Losness and daughter of Colfax, Wis., visited Sun day at the O’Flanagan and Wolter homes. Clarence Hemming of St. Paul, and Edwin Rudisuhle of Sandstone, visi ted Wednesday of last week at the Hemming home. Clarence is em plloyed in St. Paul and expects to be gin his second year at the “U” this fall. John Matthias drove to Minneapolis last Thursday and was accompanied by his daughter, Mae, who returned to her work, there, and by his niece, Annabelle Erlandson, who returned to her home, after having spent several weeks here. Mrs. Einar Moen, ac companied them to Dalbo, where she visited for a few days with her par ents. Mrs. E. Rodeen and Margaret and Vern Asleson visited at the Brom merich home Tuesday evening. Sam May is somewhat improved in health at this writing. Mrs. Carl Linde expects to return to River Falls, Wis., with her daugh ter, Hattie, who is visiting here. Leonard Sather returned Friday to his home in Duluth. He is a nephew of Charley Peterson, and has been spending his vacation here. Mr. and Mrs. Les Kofoed were din ner guests Sunday at the John Sher mer home. In the afternoon they at tended a birthday party at Martin Anderson’s near Hinckley, it being Alice Jean’s second birthday anni versary. Miss Clara Pappenfuhs resigned as treasurer of our Luther League Sun day evening. Miss Edith Christian sen was chosen in her stead. Clara expects to leave for Chicago shortly. Parochial school, under the leader ship of Rev. Reuben Johnson, was be gun here Monday. Friday evening at 7:45 a program will be given to which the public is invited. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Peterson and Mrs. Carolina Bergquist visited at the Gust Westman home Sunday evening. HAY CREEK Near Markville Mr. and Mrs. Harold Derby and family were in Sandstone Saturday. They took 1 Elsther Carlson, who has been visiting with them. Harold has been selling sweet corn and cucum bers in Sandstone. Arthur Bjork was in Superior Mon day and Friday on business. A heavy rain fell here Saturday that did much good to the late pota toes and corn. The frost Sunday night did damage to some potatoes and gardens in this neighborhood. George Rood hauled his last load of furniture Monday. Mr. Lighthouse is moving onto the Grabner place this week. Those who called at Alfred Elliott’s this week were Sylvester Holler and David Tozer and his lady friend from Pine City, Mrs. Joe Chatelle, Mrs. Seifkas and Willis and Mr. Harris of Hinckley, and Mrs. Clarence Berg. Pete Didier called at A. H. Mil ler’s Friday and Saturday he left for Grand Rapids, to go on his old homestead. He had supper at Mrs. Seifkas’. Mrs. Alfred EHliott entertained in honor of Mrs. Phinn and Willis Seif kas’ birthday Saturday. At 12 o’clock ice cream and cake was served to the guests who left wishing both many more birthdays. Father Buechler entertained com pany Sunday. Dorothy Brow is improving. Mrs. Ed Steinbring was to see her. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Holmstrong called to see her Sunday. Henry Brow has moved his family onto his farm east of Markville. Miss Cleansy called at Joe Cha telle’s Friday on business. Mr. and Mrs- Dalberg of Duluth, visited with John Anderson last week. OGEMA Mrs. Hilda Swan spent last week at the Curtis Lyon home. Mr. Lyon from Hinckley, visited in Ogema last week. Jack Grace and Al Anderson fin ished the fall threshing Monday. Mr. and Mrs. F*red Thayer and fam ily, Grandma Utley, son, Jesse, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Beaufeaux, son, Ken neth, and Miss Ethel Kingbloom went to the Pine County fair Saturday. George Lanstrom, ELI Peterson, and Mrs. T. J. Ryan and son. Bud, spent Friday afternoon at the fair. The Ogema ball team played the Oakland, Wis., team Sunday. Ogema won the game, 14 to 8. Mrs. Jack Linehan gave a dancing party in the hall Saturday. A good time was had by all. Miss Arvilla Swan will teach the school west of Hinckley, where she taught two years ago. Mrs. Rudie Steivner of Siren, Wis., spent a few days last week at her home here. (From Another Correspondent) Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Kramer and children, Donald and Ruth, left Mon day morning for Cedar Falls, lowa, where they will visit their daughter, Mrs. John Jansen (Dorothy) and be present at a reunion of the Kramer family. They expect to be gone about a week. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dannheim and daughter of New Ulm, were Sunday evening visitors of Mrs. Fred Thieling and family. Mr. Dannheim is a brother of Mrs. Thieling. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson spent Sunday evening at the Peter Stulen home. J. D. Beaufeux traded his Model T Ford last week toward a used model A. Mrs. Curtis Lyon and infant son, John, returned last week from Hinck ley, where they had spent about two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Sekora, Fred Thieling and son, Raymond, all of St. Paul, and Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Busby and family of Cloverton, were Sun day guests at the Fred Thieling home. The Clover-Ogema Farmer-Labor club meets at Ogema hall Saturday evening, Aug. 25, at 8 o’clock. A program has been arranged of sev eral musical numbers and Chas. J. Swanson will talk on “the churches and the social crisis.” After the pro gram lunch will be served and Frank McLaughlin and Frank Westman will furnish music for the dance after lunch. Everybody is invited and. wel come. The Better Homes and Garden club will hold their annual fair at Ogema hall Thursday, Aug. 30. Curtis Ackerman visited with bis folks near Hinckley over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Koener of Minneapolis, came to J. P. Westland’s Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar West lund and children returned with them Sunday morning for a visit. They will go from there to Dasisel to visit Mrs. Westlund’s parents. Mrs. Peter Roher of Duluth, is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs. Emma Stevens. Mr. and Mrs. Christ Rasmussen mo tored to Braham Sunday and visited at the Strochkirch home. Rudolph Hoagenson was taken to the University hospital last week and under an X-ray it was discovered that his leg had a broken bone above the knee. At present he is resting as well as can be expected. Monday, the 20th, was Grandpa Saastad’s eighty-fifth birthday. He is feeling fine and likes living in town where he 1s kept busy as Stella’s errand boy at the bake shop. BRUNO Martin Slott is in the Veterans’ hos pital, Fort Snelling. Berglund, Mrs. George Rydberg, Mrs. Franzone and son, and Adrian Berglund and Mr. Wernowsky and son. John Southerton and family spent Saturday evening at the Abbot home. Mr. and Mrs. Norell and children and Mildred Hedberg spent Monday with Mrs. F. O. Kvasnicka. Mr. and Mrs. H. J Berglund attend ed the Pine City fair Friday. HINCKLEY (Too Late for Last Week) The local Boy Scout troop Is spend ing’ a few days this week at the Chris tianson cottage on Grindstone lake. Supt. Neutzman is the scout master in charge and will spend the week with the sdouts. They will return home Thursday night. O. F. Anderson has installed a new whrtte electric refrigerator meat coun ter in the meat department of his store. It is a big improvement over the old ice counter. It presents a very attractive appearance in the meat department. Reimer Rypkema returned home from the Veterans’ hospital Friday, Aug. 10. Mr. Rypkema was operated on for ap pendicitis four weeks ago. He is feel ing fine and his many friends are glad to welcome him home. Walter Brand and family will move into the Frank Koop home on Dewey Ave., Sept. 1. The Senior Ericksons re cently vacated the house, moving to Duluth. Mr. Brand has been living in the W. F. Hammargren house, but Mr. Hammargren expects to move his fam ily back to Hinckley in the near future. They have been making their home on their farm at Harris the past two years.
