Page 2 Finlayson Neighborhood Clubs Meet. The four Co-op Neighborhood clubs had a fine evening together at the Pine River club house Saturday night when about 100 members and friends gathered there. A program was given with community singing, recitations by Geraldine Meidlinger, songs with guitar accompaniment by Hazel Pe try, a duet with guitar accompani ment by Mr. and Mrs. Gratton, ac cordion numbers by Bernice Bar nick and a quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. John Osladil, Mrs. Karl Meidlinger and Albert Miller sang a German dialect folk song. Mr. McLanahan, director of the club work for the Midland Coopera tive of Minneapolis, gave a talk and Miss Jessie Anderson and two friends from Minneapolis conducted a group of folk dances which proved very popular with both those who took part and the onlookers. A fine lunch was served after which Oscar Luoma played his accordian for dancing and was assisted by Mr. Gratton and his guitar. An enjoyable evening was reported. Sympathy is extended to members of the families of William Thompson and Herman Oetterer who passed away Wednesday afternoon and early Thursday morning, last week, after lingering illnesses. Funeral services for both were held Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Sever Dixon and two daughters and Mrs. Harry Allen of Detroit. Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. Ar thur Krause of Virginia, came last week to spend a few days with Mrs. Hannah Dixon and other relatives. Mrs. Sever Dixon and children re mained for a two weeks visit with her mother. Mrs. Marie Ranta, and brother, John Ranta. Mrs. Harold Drown of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Cooper of Minne apolis, were guests of Mrs. J. J. Mal loy and daughter, Ethel, from last Thursday until Saturday. They called at the C. L. Smith home Friday eve ning. Mrs. Drown will be remem bered as the former Carolaide Mc- Allister. Mr. and Mrs. Lindahl of Albert Lea. were Sunday visitors at the Theo. Esse home. The American Lutheran Sunday school enjoyed a picnic Sunday at the lake near the Mrs. Elmer Jacobson home. Mr. and Mrs. Marlyn Smith and baby son returned home last Thurs day evening after a three week’s visit with Mrs. Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Childers, and other rela tives near Galatia, 111. They spent two days at Waterloo, lowa, with Mr. Smith's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Mills. Woodrow Novek, who is working at Maiden Rock, Wis., was home from last Thursday until Sunday. On Sun day Mr. and Mrs. James Novek and Woodrow motored to Duluth to spend the day with relatives and friends. Anne Weber, who has been visiting relatives here the past month, re turned to her home at Flinflan, Mani toba, Canada, last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ryan and son, Tommy, attended a surprise birthday party at the McGrath school audi torium in honor of Mrs. Ryan’s sister in-law, Mrs. Ora Otterson, Sunday afternoon. Later they visited Mr. and Mrs. George Otterson, who were cele brating their wedding anniversary and remained to attend church before returning home. Mrs. S. B. Ryan had as dinner guests Sunday her son, Dale, and Mrs. Ryan and their small baby. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rossbach and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Poferl of St. Paul, were guests last Thursday at the George Rossbach home. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Hills and Bev erly went to Duluth Friday to bring Jeanne Arth home. She had made a fine recovery from a recent opera tion and resumed work Monday as assistant to Postmaster L. O. Ellson. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Thomssen of St. Paul, spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kaeder. Mrs. Thomssen and Mrs. Kaeder are sisters. Mrs. James Christopherson and children and her father, Mr. Cherry, and a friend from Little Falls, re turned to their homes Tuesday after spending several days visiting at the Christopherson homes here. Mrs. F. J. Ziegler came last week to take her sister, Clara Olean, to her home in St. Paul to recuperate from a recent illness. Fredolf Olean spent the week-end in St. Paul and Becker. Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Ward were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. DeGroff. Mr. and Mrs. Sigrid Tomte of Min neapolis, spent Sunday with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Ladd. Sunday supper guests at the Rudy Efram home were Mr. and Mrs. Wal ter Makela and family and Pearl Efram of Sandstone. Joe Schweiger was a dinner guest at the Walter Makela home Sunday. Mrs. Walter Mannelin and daugh ters, accompanied by Roy Hannu, motored to Duluth Sunday to see Mr. Mannelin when his boat was in port. They returned home Monday. John Snellson of Henryville, Ind., came Sunday to visit his sister, Mrs. Ella Sabin, and his nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jarvis, and family. The Earl Jarvis family and Mrs. Sabin were Sunday guests at the home of Mr. Jarvis’ parents near Mc- Grath. Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis joined a group for a few days fishing at Long lake, near Aitkin, while the boys and Mrs. Sabin returned home in the evening. Visitors Sunday evening at the Erick Pyykko home were Mrs. Dahl- sten and family and Mr. and Mrs. Sever Mattson and daughter from Denham. Mrs. T. W. Norlund and children helped her father, Erick Pyykko, cele brate his 60th birthday last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wood of White Bear Lake, came to visit Mrs. Sarah Beck and family Sunday. In the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Beck and Ernest and Fred and Henry Holl went to the Russel Emert home near Askov to visit. A. C. Bowser made a bdsiness trip to the Twin Cities Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Lee and chil dren of Minneapolis, came Tuesday to spend a few days at the Fredrick son cottage at Pine lake and to visit Mrs. Lee’s mother, Mrs. H. Fred rickson. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Dawson of Grand Rapids, Mich., came Tuesday for a visit with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. DeGroff. The Cecil Johnson family of Gron ingen, were Sunday dinner guests at the Elmer Dosch home. Mr. and Mrs. Eino Hellman and family and Mr. Bukkila of Minne apolis, came Friday to visit at the Chas. Hellman home. When they returned home Sunday Mrs. Bukkila and children accompanied them. She had been here for two weeks caring for her mother, Mrs. Hellman. Mrs. Hellman is feeling much improved at this writing. Mrs. McMillan of Britt, lowa, vis ited her daughter, Mrs. Paul Ward, and family until Sunday when her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Douglass McMillan, of Forest City. lowa, came for her. Mrs. Ward accompanied them and will visit with them for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schutt and Mr. and Mrs. August Schutt enjoyed a trip to Long lake, near Brainerd, to visit the tame fish resort Sunday. On Sunday evening LaDonna Schutt of Kroschel, came for a visit until Friday with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schutt. Sunday guests at the Oscar Berg seth home were their son, Lyle, of Minneapolis, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Walker and family of Sandstone. Dr. and Mrs. W. T. Pearson and grandsons, Willis and Roy Franson, attended the Shriner's parade and convention Saturday in Duluth. Mrs. Franson came Sunday evening to stay until Tuesday and attended the Thim ble club picnic Monday at the L. D. Brown home. Friday dinner guests at the Walter Dahlin home were Mr. and Mrs. Har old Rosenquist of Minneapolis, and Mr. and Mrs. John Erickson of Isanti. Joanne Jacobson of Minneapolis, is visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Anderson, two weeks. Vivian Glanville of Proctor, spent the week-end with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Wickstrom. Mrs. Moser’s sister, Mrs. Wilkins,’ left Saturday for her home at Misha waka, Ind., after a two weeks visit here. Mrs. Moser entertained at cards for her Wednesday afternoon of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Belling and daughter, Ruth, of Cottonwood, and Mr. and Mrs. August Belling and daughter, Alice, of Wood Lake, were visitors from Friday until Sunday at the A. R. Belling, August Vogt and Ernst Belling homes. Mr. and Mrs. Harmon C. Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Clark Brown and chil dren of Duluth, were guests at the L. D. Brown home Sunday. Mrs. S. E. Ainsworth of St. Louis Park, Minneapolis, was a guest last week at the L. D. Brown home and her daugh ter, Mrs. L. D. Brown, Jr., and baby of Marinette, Wis., who had been visiting at the Brown home since the Fourth, returned to Minneapolis with her Friday. A birthday party was held for Chas. Hendrickson, Sr., last Thurs day evening and guests from Lake Eleven were Mr. and Mrs. George Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Eckdale, while Mr. and Mrs. Ed Koski and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dahlin from Finlay son. were also present. The Ed Koski family called at the John Anderson home Sunday after noon. Mr. and Mrs. L. Nystrom and fam ily spent Sunday in St. Paul visiting Mr. and Mrs. William Osladil and baby. The ladies of the American Luth eran church will have a social at the Izaak Walton League cabin Thurs day, July 25. Homemade ice cream, cake and coffee will be served dur ing the afternoon and evening. Ev eryone is welcome. Thursday evening, July 25, the Pine Co-op Oil Association will sponsor a movie which will last an hour and a half, telling about the cooperative movement. Mrs. Oscar Anderson and Edward and Betty, Mrs. E. H. Barnick, Gloria Anderson and Bud Barnick called at the A. C. Haglin home in Groningen Sunday afternoon. Gladys Haglin of Groningen, is spending a week with her cousin, Bernice Barnick. Mrs. E. B. Greenwald called at the E. H. Barnick home one day last week. Wise spent Sunday afternoon in Siren. Mr. and Mrs. G. Wise spent Satur day afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Bud Gilbert at Sturgeon Lake. The next club meeting will be at the Otto Miller home July 24. McLean home Sunday night. The Arthur Williams family of Du luth, were in Markville Sunday. They made a trip to Willmar to bring Mrs. Howard, who has been visiting there, back to Markville. Mrs. Ellis Thomas, formerly Mar garet Ballantine, and her two chil dren have been visiting her folks in Markville the past week. The Markville Lutheran Ladies’ Aid held an ice cream social in the basement of the church Tuesday night of last week. Reports are coming in from local farmers that the hay crop is not very good this year. Doubtless the dry fall and the cool spring had much to do with it. Mr. and Mrs. Ehmke, who have been in the west side of the county for some time, returned home Wed nesday of last week. The Markville Presbyterian Ladies’ Aid met at the Edwin Monson home Monday afternoon in business session. Rev. A. E. They visited Mr. Ables’ old home near Cambridge, Ohio, which he had not seen for 40 years; also many friends and relatives there and in southern lowa. They report a very nice trip. D., where they spent 10 days visiting friends and relatives. Thomas, Jr., who went with them, stayed to work in the harvest fields. Callers at the Sam Haines home Friday evening were Ann Patrick and Mrs. Wolf and children. Mr. and Mrs. Emery Wolters and children were Sunday visitors at the Vern Asleson home. A girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Elison Thursday, July 11, at the Nelson hospital in Hinckley. Lorraine Thomas spent last Thurs day afternoon visiting Mary Jean Haines. Mr. and Mrs. Lennart Johnson and son, Ellery James, from Minneapolis, were week-end visitors at the Tom Wolf home. Raymond Wolf went to Minneapolis with them to spend two weeks and to attend the Minneapolis Aquatennial and see the Millers play ball. Geraldine Wolf went to Pine City Monday to be pitcher for the girls kittenball team of Pine City. Duxbury Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Berg and David of Duluth, were Sunday visitors at the Max Lampson home. William, Jr., returned home with them after two days visit with Glen Lampson. Mr. and Mrs. J. Galvin were visi tors at the T. Coyne home near Fries land Sunday. Harold Holzeid of White Bear, and some friends spent Sunday at the F. Ogg home. Mr. Ogg went to White Bear with them and from there will go to Minneapolis for treatments at the University hospital. Mrs. Adrian Shute left Monday for Minneapolis for treatments at the University hospital. Norman Shute spent the week-end with friends in Duluth. Hay Creek Mrs. Elsie Elliott received a letter from her daughter. Erma, who is visiting in Clarkfield and she reports that she is having a grand time. Lola Roach is visiting at the Mrs. Edna Phinn home at this writing. She expects to return to her home some time this week. Rev. Somers, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cha telle and Mrs. Edith Steinbring went to Hinckley Saturday. Mrs. Steinbring was called to Cambridge to attend the funeral services of her brother-in-law who died last Thursday. He had been ill for two years. Mrs. Steinbring returned Sunday afternoon. Ray Chipman and John Anderson were in Pine City Wednesday of last week on business. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Chatelle were dinner guests at the Ervin Phinn home recently. The wind Sunday morning damaged several hay stacks in this vicinity. Oscar Thilquist of Mora, called at the Joe Chatelle home Monday noon on busi ness.
