Texas, Tuesday morning of last week follow ing a two weeks leave here with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. John Nalezny. A group of friends from here at tended the bridal shower for Mar garet Anderson at Denham Tuesday evening of last week. Margaret re ceived many beautiful gifts and all reported a very good time. Mrs. C. Foster and children re turned home Tuesday afternoon of last week from St. Cloud where they attended the funeral of her nephew, Robert Leroy Johnstone. Mr. John stone was taken to the hospital fol lowing the funeral of their son. Mrs. Ann Anderson and her moth er, Mrs. Tilda Larson, and brother. Leonard Larson, attended the funeral of Mrs. Larson’s cousin, John An derson, at Bock Monday of last week. Miss Emily Nalezny returned to her work in Chicago recently after spending her two weeks vacation here with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. John Nalezny. Mrs. Ed Clough returned home Wednesday of last week from Chip pewa Falls, Wis., where she attended the wedding of her granddaughter, Beverly Stai. Guests at the Stanley Zigmant home the past week'-were their son in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Robertson, of Duluth. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Druhos of San Diego, Calif., are guests at the James Dolezal home this week. Jerry is Mrs. Dolezal’s son. Mr. and Mrs. I. G. Roberts and daughter Harriet returned home Fri day afternoon. Mr. Roberts has a three weeks vacation this year. The first week was spent with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Lee. at Atkinson. That week-end was spent in Minneapolis and last week in Man kato with his father, and this week at home. L. I. Howard of Pine River is relief agent. Mrs. Robert Anderson and infant daughter of Denham called on Mrs. Robert Burns last Thursday after noon Jackie Nelson is spending two weeks here with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Lundgren. Visitors at the home of Mrs. Anna Polivka Friday evening of last week were as follows: The Mesdames Leo Novitski, Henry Robertson and Stan ley Zigmant. Mr. and Mrs. H. Harris and chil dren of Superior and Mrs. Joe Stepan and children returned home Friday following the past week in Minne apolis visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Harris returned to Superior Sunday afternoon. Mrs. H. Novak visited Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Price in Duluth Sat urday. She also did some shopping. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Hogan of Kerrick spent Sunday afternoon here with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Nyrud. Father’s day dinner guests at the Herman Thrun home were his son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Thrun, and children of Fin layson, Mrs. Amanda Smith and Mrs. E. Slack. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sexton and chil dren of Kerrick spent Sunday aft ernoon at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Sexton, and Sun day evening they motored to Moose Lake, attending a show. Mrs. Leslie Larson and the Misses Bonnie and Delia Larson spent the week-end here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Woods and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Larson, returning to Minneapolis Sunday afternoon. Miss Amanda Gross spent the week-end at the parental Joe Jurash home. Those from here who attended the wedding of Margaret Anderson Sun day afternoon at the Faith Lutheran church were Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Stan ton, Mrs. Ann Anderson and daugh ter Arlene and Mrs. H. E. Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Leser and Mrs. Tom Randall were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Clough Wednesday of last week. They were fishing at Stur geon lake. Mr. and Mrs. Clough spent Friday night with them at their cabin. They returned to Minneapo lis Saturday afternoon. Father’s day visitors at the J. G. Lundgren home were Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Lundgren and grandson, Jackie Nelson. County Superintendent and Mrs. A. E. Gustafson of Pine City attended the wedding of Margaret Anderson at Denham Sunday. Returning home they called at the Oscar Larson home. Miss Anderson was a Willow high graduate and following her college course she taught here before join ing the Delano faculty. Shoppers in Duluth Tuesday aft ernoon of last week were the Mes dames Lyle Ehmke. Harry Nyrud and Norma Wach. Guests at the Ben Harris home in Crosby Father’s day were the fol lowing: Mr. and Mrs. L. The Misses Helen Anderson and Norma Wach visited friends in Clo quet last Thursday afternoon. Guests at the Mrs. R. Thompson home Sunday were her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Thompson, and children of Minne apolis. Mr. and Mrs. Basil Doonan and children motored Sunday to Pine River where they were guests of rel atives until Tuesday, when they re turned home. Ogilvie, and Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Ogilvie, motored to Shell Lake, Wis., Sunday to visit at the home of her brother and sister-in law. Mr. and Mrs. James G. Ogilvie. Mrs. Elvera Wickstrom and daugh ter Doris and Lorrayne Fritz mo tored to the Bible camp at Grindstone lake Monday morning. The girls will spend this week there. Major Wm. Rindsland motored here last Thursday evening and re turned to Minneapolis Friday morn ing acompanied by Mrs. Rindsland and her mother, Mrs. Ida Bachman, whose stay there is indefinite. The committee, the Mesdames La- Plante, Johnson and Aakhus. met at the LaPlante home Friday evening to discuss the Red Cross benefit party which will take place at the school gymnasium Monday evening, July 12. Everyone plan to come. Village Of Denham Sunday school at the Methodist church at 10 a. m. Sunday evening services conducted by Rev. Steele at 8 p. m. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Alberg and Patty visited Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Millerd Torkelson. Arlene Anderson of Willow River. Arlene Peterson. Billy Colton and Bud Petersen drove to St. Paul Sunday to visit the Paul Dahlstrom family. In the afternoon, accompanied by the Dahlstrom family, they went to Ex celsior. Mrs. Arnold Paulson went to Min neapolis Monday, returning the same evening accompanied by Patty Ho mann who will visit at the Paulson home this summer. Saturday Bruno Burak, Jr., visited in Cloquet and Duluth. Eddie Bo haty returned for a visit with him. Sunday they and Mary Ann drove to Pine City to visit at the Stanley Wil cox home. Mrs. Dina Liljedahl, Mrs. Harold Selleg and Donna Mae were guests of Mrs. Alvina Peterson Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Alberg and Patty and Mr. and Mrs. F. O. Alberg and David visited at the parental Turn ock home in Lawler recently. Art Frehse of Duluth spent the week-end with his family near Den ham. Mr. and Mrs. James Dolezal of near Willow River were guests at the A. C. Frehse home Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. John Lound and sons. Grant and Russell of Crosby-Ironton visited at the J. H. Lound home Sun day. Helen and Martha Czerndak and Clement Burak of Duluth spent the week-end at the B. Burak home. Mr. and Mrs. Vai Kiminski of Du luth spent the week-end at the M. Kiminski and John Martichuski homes. Arlene Peterson spent last Thurs day with her friend, Alvina Peterson, in Willow River. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Johnson, Mrs. Wesley Schothrath and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Johnson of Grindstone Lake vis ited in Denham Sunday. Mrs. Roy Alberg and Patty called at the F. E. Anderson home last Thursday. Most farm ers there are very optimistic and ex pect good crops. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schejbal and Helen and Grandma Schejbal called at the Arnold Paulson home Friday night. Mrs. Alvina Peterson spent Sunday with her brother, Art Liljedahl. in Rutledge. Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Johnson anc Norman had as their Sunday dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. Enock John son and Mr. and Mrs. Trygve John son of Cloquet. In the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Sam Johnson of Cloquet and Chaplain Roy Johnson and fam ily of Wisconsin called. Margaret Anderson was tendered a miscellaneous shower Tuesday eve ning of last week at the Faith Luth eran church. She received many use ful and beautiful gifts. Anton Cegla and Bud Mealy ac companied Ralph Lotta of Moose Lake Saturday to Elma. lowa, where the former bought a foundation herd of registered Holsteins for his son, Bernard Cegla. The cattle were pur chased from the Elmadell Dairy Farms, Tidgwell & Cook, owners. Bruno Burak, Sr., and Mary Ann spent Tuesday and Wednesday of last week in Minneapolis. Tuesday eve ning they attended the graduation exercises at the Vocational high school. Bruno, Jr., was one of the graduates. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Paulson and family called on Mrs. Minnie Paul son Friday evening. Mrs. Alvena Peterson made a busi ness trip to Duluth last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Hladek of lowa, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. John Slama, sold their farm known as the Per Larson farm to Ted Peterson and returned to lowa Tuesday. Johnny Slama returned to lowa with them for a two weeks visit. Bass Lake Private Albert Paul of Gila Bend, Ariz., is home on a 15-day furlough visiting his parents and relatives. Albert is in the air force and likes it quite well. Emil Johnson and Mrs. Axel Lin man of Minneapolis spent the week end with their brother, Alfred John son, and family. Pfc. Floyd Cleveland of California is home on furlough, visiting his mother and other friends. A party was held at the Gust Paul home Friday evening for Albert Paul. A large crowd was in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Carlson and family of St. Paul spent the week end at the Anton Peterson home. Mrs. Carlson and Jimmy remained for a longer visit. Mrs. Richard Swanson assisted Mrs. Arvid Felt Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Carlson and family of St. Paul spent the week end here visiting relatives and friends. Mrs. Ida Eerg returned to her home in Minneapolis Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Nystrom and sons of Minneapolis spent from Thursday until Sunday at the Over land and Nystrom homes. Miss Eileen Brandt left for a visit in Minneapolis Sunday. Mrs. Gust Nyberg spent Saturday and Sunday in Minneapolis. D. C. Street is visitin’ at White Bear Lake at this writin’. The 4-H Club held its first meetin’ Friday evenin' at school “B.’’ Mrs. Jones, club leader, was present. Miss Rose Nyberg of St. Paul is home again for the summer months. Folks are wishin’ for a speedy re covery for Mrs. Arthur Mossberg who underwent an operation for gall stones at St. Luke’s hospital in Du luth Friday and for Mrs. Henry An derson who underwent an appen dicitis operation Saturday at the Raitor hospital in Cloquet. Oscar Dahlen is here on a visit from California at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Anderson and family visited Mrs. Arthur Mossberg in Duluth Sunday. Henry Anderson spent Saturday night and Sunday in Cloquet. There will be services in the Faith Lutheran church at 8:30 o’clock Sun day evening and Sunday school at 10 a. m. The Women’s Society of Christian Service of the M. E. church will meet at the Anton Larson home Saturday afternoon, June 26. All are welcome. There will be a Red Cross meeting at the Anton Larson home Thurs day afternoon, July 1. All are wel come. The Luther League of the Faith Lutheran church will meet Thurs day evening, July 1. Howard Olson will be the speaker and the theme for the program is “The Holy Spirit.” The Daily Vacation Bible school of the Faith Lutheran church will give its program Friday evening, June 25. All are welcome. Miss Mary Johnson underwent an operation at the Moose Lake hospital Monday. Chas. Upgren has had the cast re moved and is soon ready to come home after having been in the Moose Lake hospital since the last Sunday in March because of a fractured hip. Mrs. Henry Christensen and Ger ald and Beverly went to Cloquet Sunday and remained there with relatives for this week. Mr. and Mrs. Helmer Larson and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Roseland and Judy spent Sunday with Mr. Roseland in honor of Fa ther’s day. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Klene ski and family and Leroy Colton were also visitors there. Mrs. Selmer Hanson and Joyce drove to the Upgren home here Sun day and later accompanied by Mrs. Chas. Upgren and Dickie Hanson drove to Moose Lake to spend the afternoon with Mr. Upgren. Mr. and Mrs. Philip Burrell and son Warren and a friend drove here Sunday from Duluth and together with the Walter Carlson family spent the afternoon with Godfrey Carlson and their mother, Mrs. Hilda Carl son. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Larson have recently moved away from this com munity and are now making their home in Rutledge near the home of their son Edwin and his family. Mrs. Tilda Larson came to the L. J. (From Another Correspondent) Mrs. Allen Irene, formerly of Den ham, was the guest of honor at a surprise birthday party held at their home at Mary Lu’s homestead near Moose Lake Saturday evening, June 12. About 50 couples attended and music for dancing was furnished by the Schmidt Bros. Lunch was fur nished by the guests. Mr. Irene is employed, at the state hospital in the capacity of operating engineer. Arthyde Miss Marcella Olson is now attend ing an NYA school in Duluth. Charles and Mary Bouton of Min neapolis are visiting at the Emmer home at this writing. Mrs. A. Raines and Archie, Mrs. Edna Coolidge and Mrs. Annie Thom son were Moose Lake visitors last Thursday. A farewell party was given in honor of Orville Ova Tuesday of last week. He went to Fort Snelling Wednesday, returning home last Thursday evening. Roger Ruud of Minneapolis spent the week-end here with relatives. Dale Ruud returned home with him after spending a week here. Wayne is making a longer visit. The Community club held its an nual picnic at the hall Sunday. A special table was set in honor of the fathers. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Emmer and children picnicked and fished near Rutledge Sunday. A birthday party was given in honor of Mrs. Edna Coolidge Mon day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Art Pince and boys visited at the Palmer Paulson home Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. L. Pince spent Sunday with Mrs. Alma Wagner and children. Alton Speed is spending this sum mer at the Chas. Johnson home. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mumberger and children of Minneapolis returned to their home Monday after spending a week with Mrs. A. Wagner and family. Mr. and Mrs. Jos Pince. Mrs. A. Wagner and children. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Asleson and children. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Johnson, Mrs. Wm. Pince and W. H. Wagner gathered at the A. E. Pince home Monday evening to help Mrs. Pince celebrate her birthday. Johnson family Saturday evening. Ethel Fenstermaker spent Sunday with her folks. She is employed at New Brighton. Sturgeon Beach Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Burmayer and family of St. Paul came Friday to spend a two weeks vacation at Camp Edelweiss. Their son Gerald will remain all summer whth his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Burmayer. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kettle’non and family of Finlayson visited at the Herman Burmayer home Satur day evening. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Anderson were in Cambridge Friday with a load of cattle. Josephine and Lily Mae Mc- Levis of Sturgeon Lake looked after the children while they were away. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Anderson and family were supper guests at the home of her mother. Mrs. Mary Fen nus. in Denham Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Close visited at the Herman Burmayer home Fri day evening. Mrs. Herman Burmayer accompa nied Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Close to Moose Lake Saturday forenoon where they went on business. Mr. and Mrs. And. Grich and fam ily of Minneapolis spent the week end at the M. J. Close home. Ellis Whiting spent the week-end with his family, returning to Duluth Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Whiting and family called at the Burmayer home Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Henderson called at the Burmayer home Monday. They also went to St. Paul for a few days. Mrs. Clarence Burmayer called at the Whiting home Saturday and Mon day afternoon. Sturgeon Lake Mrs. Stanley Snyder of Superior, Miss Helen Snyder of Milwaukee and Betty Ann Heganey of Menomonee Falls spent Wednesday of last week with the former’s mother, Mrs. Jose phine Tomczak. Evelyn Granda left for St. Paul Monday for an indefinite stay with her aunt there. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Riley and Mary of Minneapolis stayed at their home from Saturday until Tuesday. Wise and Mrs. George Benson and her sister of Danbury, Wis., spent last Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Gilbert. Mrs. Ed Miller of Chicago visited Wednesday of last week with her sister. Mrs. Joe McLevis. The Misses Tillie and Josephine McLevis and George McLevis mo tored to St. Paul Tuesday of last week to visit their sister. Mrs. Mike Beliski. They returned last Thurs day accompanied by their sister, Martha, who will stay here indefin itely. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Adamczak of Duluth spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Grabowski. Mrs. Joe Odebraski spent last week in Duluth. Virginia Berglund is working for Mrs. M. M. Barnes at this writing. Going East. I can't go fishing this week-end. I’m going to try to locate some furniture but I believe it is going to be impossible. It is fortunate that we stocked up as heavily as we did.
