Another temptation met with Is,
"You can't hold out." You can't do

Jesus and be lost. The last tempta
tion he meets with Is this, the devil
whispers to him, "your father wont
receive you."
But what do we Had. The father ran
to meet him. The only time that God
Is ever represented to be In a hurry Is
this, when he runs to meet the return
Ing sinner. And what does He sayV
"Go bring the best robe" (the robe of
Christ's righteousness). Put a ring
upon his finger, evidence of son-ship.
Put shoes on his feet, I'll show him
how to wat. Kill the fatted calf, I'll
feed him on the best of everything.
And let us make merry.

Tuesday morning Dr. Wharton took
his text from the 1st and part of the
2d verse of the 12th chapter of the
Kplstln to the Hebrews: "Wherefore,
seeing we also are compassed about
with mo great a cloud of witnesses, let
tin lay aside every weight, and the sin
which doih so easily beset us, and let
tin run with patience the race that is
set before us, looking unto .lesus."
The figure taken is striking, that of
the race track. In any gathering of
people black always seems to predom
inate, and so the apostle speaks of the
great company as a cloud of witness)!.
The Christian's race Is a good rave,
becaune it Is from earth to heaven.

upon their backs and expect to make
this race. Some of the welch. with
which we are burdened 'are: First,
"Doubt." Doubt Is one of the greatest
burdens which any Christian tries Jto
carry. Doubt never helped a man, to

doubt knocks at the door, send faith
there; faith Is the child of God, but
doubt la the child of the devil. 'Second,

you cling to the world, and live among
those who are not Christians. God
says: "Com out from among them
and be ye separate." Third, "Fear."
Som people are afraid they can't do
anything; therefore, they do nothing.
If we have Jesust Christ as our Savior
we can do all things. It Is the men
and women who think they can, who
attain In this world. Fourth, "Lying."
We are often not as careful as we
should be In our stateMnts of the
truth, and this Is one of the welghu
that we must lay aside Is we run this
heavenly race. Fifth, "Gossip." Sucb

lay aside. 8lith, "Temper." One of
the most grievous sins of the children
of God Is temper. You. speak to your
wife as you would to no one else; to
your child as you should not to a dog.
My friends, the grace of God converts
the soul, but does not convert the
body. Our old passions and our ap
petites remain uutll our bodies are
changed, but God gives the grace to
control our bodies. We have two na
turesthe spiritual and the animal.
The man who walks after the spirit
has subjected t Is body by the grace
of God; and he that waltts after the
animal, has not.
We must run with patience. Don't
stand still; don't run yourself out of
breath. Have patience, but run. Be
patientwith yourself, with your friends,
with those aronnd you, and with your
Lord.
Look unto Jesus. Take your eyes
off yourself; keep your eyes on Him,
and by and by you will find yourself,
perhaps sooner than you think, sweep
ing through the gates and hearing the
angels sing, "You've won the crown."

When you become Jesus Christ's,
you pass from under the law Into
grace, and every one of your sins Is
laid to Him. The wanderer from God
should return and be at this reception.
There are many who have wandered
away, and are now standing like

have taken away my Lord." Brother,
He Is right behind you, waiting to
welcome you back, and He wants you
back to do His work. There Is work
to do, heaven Is all around us If we
only look for it.
