Prof. Thur man was appointed to fill out the uuexpired term of Prof. Deer wester when that gentleman resigned. He has dons his work well, giving uuivcr sal satisfaction. He is a gentleman of uniform courtesy, even temper, strict integrity and morality, impartial and fearless and no better material cau be found in the county for the posi tion he seeks. Prof. John P. Thur man is not related to W. P. ThurmHn who made a canyass for this position a few vears since. R. H. Review. This is Meant tor You- It has been truly said that half the world does not know how the other half lives. Coiuparitively few of us have perfect health, owing to the impure condition of our blood But we rub along from day to day, with scarcely a thought, uuless forced to our attention, of the thousands all about us who are suffering from scrofula, salt rheum and other se rious blood disorders, and whose agonies cau only be imagined. The marked success of Hoods Sai sapanl la for these troubles, as shown in our advertising columns frequently, certainly seems to justify urging the use of this excellent medicine by all those who know their blood to be disordered. Every claim in be half of Hood's Sarsaparilla is fa!v backed up by what the medicine has done and is still doing, and when its proprietors urge its merits and its use upon all who suffer from impure blood in great or small degree they certainly mean to include you. Welch, formerly of New Home township, this county, now of Suuimerville, Oregon, writes us: "I like your paper and although I am not a democrat am a Missouri an and like to hear from that part of the world. You have regular correspondents from several locali ties but none from New Home, mj old stamping ground; would be glad if 60iiw one would write from that part. We are having a nice winter here so far. There has been no feeding done yet, and cattle is look ing well. They are having the cold est weather below this winter they have had for years, snow beiug eighteen inches deep iu Portland, something very uncommon for thai place. Oregou markets are generally good, but old Pike is far ahead of her this winter. I see by your paper that wheat is 60cts per bushel; here it is forty five cents. Also bogs are far below your market only being worth four cents. Cattle and horse are very low, twelve hundred pound horses are selling at from seventy to eighty dollars." Nevada Democrat Ii. T. Wall, a wealthy resident of this county surprised the Democrat lately by ordering his paper stopped, which was his privilege, for the rea son that an article was published by the Democrat of a fight he had with another prominent .citizen, in wbicti the aforesaid Mr. Wall bit a slug off the other fellow's check. Now, Mr. Wall, we desire to impart thie information to you in a friendly spirit; your stopping the paper d n't top the paper. Oh no, simply this and nothing more; your name has been dropped from the subscrip tion li6t, but bless your soul maD, 'the paper is running, and we fail to dif-covtr any yawning chasm ic our circulation by your stopping the pa per.
