(Markton soon after the noon hour and
attempted to roll tlie liank. It is stat
ed that the robber got hold of Cashier
Chatham's gun before his intentions
were realized. When the robber com
manded the cashier to tli row-up his
hands-, lie was knocked down with a
chair. The robber jumped to his feel
and ran out of the bank building, re
taining possession of the gun. U,
time the alarm wnsghen thodcspcrado
had made his escape into a corn Hold
thence to the swamps. As jet he has

succeed in getting an. money.

new road from Kennett to I'iggott was
beyun last week and is now being push
ed bj a laryc force of hands. The
track is being laid on the surface and
a steam grader is following up with
the grading. One of the promoters of
the road was here one daj this week
and stated the crew was lajing the
track at the rate of a mile u week. At
that rate the road should beoomplotod
bj the middle of September. This
road will put l'iyyott in close touch
with ovorj point in Dunklin countj
and nitinj other points that hae here
tofore been well-nigh inaccessible to
us.
.lonesboro News: Having alreadj
secured a lease of ninetj-nine joins
on over eleven thousand acres of land
in the immediate vicinitj of Lake City
and .Tonesboro capitalists will perfect
an organization at a meeting which
will lie held either in .lonesboro or
Lake City shortly for the purpose of
boring for oil. A contract will then
be let to bore a well to go :,(M)0 feet
into the ground if necessary. The
Standard Oil Companj nor any other
sjndicate, will have any connection
whatever in the allair.
