There were quite a number of young folks at Emmet London's party last .Saturday evening. After spending some time playing games, all took places around the table and enjoyed a spread of ice cream and cake. Wm. London and family spent Sun day afternoon at the home of Howard Haynes. Several in this vicinity attended the Bible lecture at the court house in Farmington Sunday evening. Mrs. Myrtle Hoffman, of St. Louis, who has been visiting with her father, C. H. Hornstein, returned home Mon day. Carl London, of St. Louis, was down home on a visit last Saturday and Sunday. Geo. Haynes, who has been home during the last week, returned to his work in St. Louis Sunday. Mrs. R. C. Martin spent Monday af ternoon with Mrs. Thos. Hornstein. Carr Hartshorn and family, of El vins, spent the evening at the home of Mrs. D. E. Hartshorn Monday. Miss Mabel Casteel, of Flat River, who has been spending a few days with Mrs. T. F. O'Bannon, returned home last Saturday. Last Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. Lee Demmett and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schilling, of Dexter, Mo., passed through this neighborhood on their way to St. Louis. They put up camp at Wolf creek for the night. Fred Schilling is a brother of Joe Schilling. Those who spent the evening at the home of Thos. O'Bannon last Thurs day were: Mr. and Mrs. John Haynes and family, Mrs. R. C. Martin, Miss Mabel Casteel and Roscoe Zolman. Ice cream was served. Charles Francisco was out at Wolf creek one day last week making a gen eral survey of the ford, or rather the creek bed. It is his plan to erect a bridge at that place and it is the hope of all in this community that he will do so. Anyone who has been along this road in the last ten years with an auto has seen the great need of a bridge here. There have been enough repair expenses, due to the roughness of the creek bed, and a large enough fuel bill, due to taking the hill in low, to almost buy the material of said bridge. BISMARCK Ralph Brewin and Paul Higgins, of Flat River, were visitors here Wed nesday night.' A. N. Sherrill, of St. Louis, was here the fore part of the week visiting his daughters, Misses Mildred, Ger trude, Addie, Abyss and Myrtle. Mrs. O. L. Hines and family, of Farmington, were visitors here a while Wednesday evening. From here they went to St. Louis where Mr. Hines is employed. Mr. and Mrs. Omar McVey, of St. Locis, visited Bismarck relatives and friends the past week. Mrs. M. E. White and children, of Fredericktown, came here the fore part of the week and visited at the home of her sister, Mrs. F. W. Gale, and family. i Mr. and Mrs. F. C. England, pastor of the Baptist church here, is at present making a tour of the state in behalf of the Baptist Home at Ironton. Mrs. Thos. Cheatman, of St.' Louis, is at present visiting her daughter, Mrs. C. L. Kistner and family. M. Lavery and Jas. Corbett, of Iron Mountain, attended the social given by the Catholic ladies on Wednesday night. Miss Edith Long went to Tiedinont the last of the week for a few days visit with friends and relatives. A truck load of people from Iron ton attended the social here Wednes day night. U. E. Hansbrough is again the own er of a meat market, he having pur chased one in Leadwood. Miss Edna Adams, of Belgrade, was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Rickman Wednesday evening. She had been on a visit in St. Louis and was on her way home. Miss Helen Thomure, of St. Louis, was guest of Mrs. Patrick Marlow and family the past week. The Farm Bureau store unloaded a carload of feed and flour on Friday Mr. and Mrs. L. N. Beard on Fri day received an invitation to attend the wedding of their granddaughter, Miss Viola Black to Ally Politte, both of Elvins. C. J. Hill and daughter. Hazel, and son, Ray, motored to St. Louis one day last week and visited xnends and relatives. Theo. Van Herck, Sr., on Saturday sold his household furniture and farm ing implements. He sold his farm to Mr. Bass and will give possession the first of next month. It is reported here that there is to be a change in superintendents at Iron Mountain. ' Mrs. Jas. Wood and son,' Robert, and Miss Florence Love were at the Bonne Terre hospital on Wednesday to visit R. C. Love, who has been there for quite a while, and is in a danger ous, condition. Louis Emline and family, of St. Louis, were visiting home folks here the fore part of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schulz were Flat River visitors the fore part of the week. Louis Emling, Sr., came near losing the sight of one eye by being struck in the face with a bundle of wheat, At this writing he is doing nicely. Mrs. William Gibson, of St Louis, Visited her sister, Mrs. Edwin bchulz, the oast week. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Leggett, of Milwaukee, Wis., were visiting his mother, Mrs. Sophia Leggett, and family the past week. W. J. Dent, of Caledonia, was here Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Hudson, of Poplar Bluff, came here Thursday for a few days visit With her son, Lee, and family. S. Middleton was in Desloge, Fred ericktown, Crystal City and St. Marys the past week on business missions. Misses Evaline and Ethel Canter, of Webb City, Mo., arn here at prc cnt visiting friends and relatives. They visit here every summer at this time. Mrs. J. A. Stancil, of DeSoto. who had been here for the past three weeks caring for her mother, Mrs. C. V. Coxey, returned to her home on Sat urday afternoon. It is reported here that the exami nations that were held in flat River last Saturday had been cuncelled. A later report is that the commissioner who had ordered them cancelled had found his mistake and had the cancel lation annulled. A letter from Con gressman Rhodes to T. H. Coxey, one of the candidates, telling him that it was a mistake on the part of the com missioner, that the notice cancelling the examination, being posted, and that the matter in regard to the exam ination would stand as before the no tice was posted. Mrs. Earl Wright is home from St. Louis, where she had been due to the serious illness of her husband, Earl Wright, who was operated on a few weeks ago and who was thought for a while to be in a critical condition. She reports Mr. Wright getting along fine, which we are all glad to hear. Cecil Renneger departed for Col umbia Tuesday morning, where he plans to get a position that will en able him to work his way through the college the coming year. He worked his way through last year, and also made a great record in the rifle range. Cecil is a boy who will make good at anything he starts. He is the only Bismarck boy that ever won one of the Greggory scholarships on a com petative examination. Wm. Gudger was in St. Louis the latter part of the week. Misses Mary and Fannie Sinclair, of St. Louis, were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Hinze and Mr. find Mrs. T. H. Coxey. These young la dies are employed in St. Louis. Albert Black, of Jackson, was the guest of relatives and friends here the past week. Albert formerly lived here and has a large delegation of friends here. Miss Addie Hughes, of Washington, D. C, is at present visiting her moth er, Mrs. Eliza Hughes, and other rel atives. Miss Adtde is a former Bis marck girl, who is now holding a re sponsible position with the War Risk Department. She is a graduate of the Ozark Business College. Wm. Mauk, of Flat River, was a visitor here the fore part of the week. Albert Black, James McGeorge Chas. The school board met on Saturday and elected Miss Mather, of Kearney, Mo., as history teacher in the high school, and when the school bell rings on the morning of Sept. 6th, there will oe a mil corps of teachers on hand to start the school "year. It was report ed here that there would be no high school here due to the board being un able to obtain any teachers, but last week Miss Gertrude Munger, who was elected with C. M. Barnes, who would, not accept, sent in her signed contract. and on Wednesday 'night Mrs. Menes, of St. Louis, was elected, and Saturday night at another meeting of the board Miss Mather was elected, and this, with Supt. Baker who was elected last spring, make up the lull teaching corps. 1 W. F. Bone, who has been in Kansas with a construction gang the greater part of the summer, came home Fri day night. He will leave in a few days for Illinois. Buford Wood, of Desloge, was a Sunday guest of his cousin, Jesse Wood, of this city. One of the saddest events reported lately is the choking to death of the four-year-old child of Mr. and Mrs. Hfcys Waller. The child, in company with its parents, were at the home of Bert Lightfoot on Sunday afternoon, when the child became chocked and died before anything could be done. It was buried in the Wallen cemetery on Tuesday. All join in extending sympathy to the bereaved parents. The Bismarck baseball team and a large number of fans journeyed to Elvins, where the Bismarck team, be ing "hungry" for a victory due to the rain the previous Sunday, fell upon the Elvins team and fairly ate them up by the one-sided score of 10 to 3.
