Smoot s an inriipeiuleiit candi date for Judge of the 1st Judicial Circuit, sui jtct to tbe ilec.sioii of the Voters at the poll?. The campaign issues have been made and dUctmseti In the speakers all over this county. The speaker for the Ik-iuociutiv autl Rtpubliean parties have simply shown to the vo ter that they are alike in principle , eay that wrongs need riylitinj:, but fuil absolutely to tell the voter when r how they propose to right those wrongs. Tiiev have both talked tar itf, cracked their jokes and npplied the party lash and the bloo ly shirt for the past fifteen years at a ruinous ex pense to the farmers and laborers of our county and country. They Icivt concentrated the wealth of the p -opli by unfair l .ws into the hands of the few, taken the products of labor mul given it to the rich, while their plat forms show to the voter- that they do not intend to give the peopl ; any re lief, notwithstanding spechd promises of some of their speakers. The People's party has boldly an nounced their platform, which is plain nnd easy to understand, and not tilled with a platitude of meaningless words like those of the old parties. The ar gument of our speakers are incontro vertible, plain, convincing and point out the remedies which will surely give the deired relief ncetled for the people. The voters have given good audience t the Populist speakers, lictter than to any other party. Tliev are convinced that the remedies offer ed will bring the relief demanded and will march to the ballot box next Tuesday in solid phalanx and deposite their votes, which are of the people, by the people and for the people. Kiss your wives and babies before you go to the polls and tell them by the grace of God you will deposite one ballot, unfettered by partisan hate or mercenary motives, in the rule of love laid down by the lowly Xazerine, for your country, your home and j'onr God. Do this and leave the results to Him who knoweth the hearts of the people and who has heard the cry ef million , asking that they have an opportunity to live, bread forrtourisli inent, clothing to warm the ftddy and fhat they lie no longer forced to beg and live off the charity of those men whom bad laws have made inillionares by sharing the profits of other men's labor. The People's party toters, as they go to the polls next Tuesday, should remember that the fight is for prin ciples aud pot for man. That in order to get otffvprinciplos engrafted into tit will require, indirectly, the sue of every man on the Peoole's $y ticket ' ' ''A rote for Hulbart Bronson is a Yote in the interest of the poducer. JOHN 0. SM00T. Mr. Hmoot presents himself as an independent candidate for the orlice of judge of this circuit. After he had secured his name on the ticket as such, the Republican and People's parties endorsed his candidacy, and thus his name appears on the ticket in three places. We see that the Re publicans and Democrats in New York have nominated the same man for Judge of their court of appeals, and declared by resolution that the judic iary should be separated from politics "and that an independert judiciary is the firmest bulwork of freedom," and so we suy. and we nay to every voter ill Scotland count', without regard to polics. should vote for him. He is a Scotland county boy; lias lieen raisetl in your midst, on the rough side of life; has spent his whole life in your count), is well qualified for the place. Turner has had the office for twelve years; has drawn $24,000 from the State, and now asks for another term of six vears. A man has got to be thirty years old before he can run for the othVe, and if you give In in eighteen years, you have virtually debarred all men of that generation. Now is J our time to show home pride and give a descrying Scotland county' man a io- sition of honor and profit, and this should be done without regard to par ty, as there is no politics in the office, and thereby help a man, who has struggled on the rough side of life, to a position so honorable. The Democratic liar on the west sale took us to tak hist week for opposing Hatch on account of the tuiti-option. The d. 1. said that all the alliance leaders were in favor of the bill. This is as near the truth as it is possible for Bates to arrive at. When the bill was first drafted and a really anti-option bill, all alliance leaders were in faver of it, as all persons having the wcilfarc of the producer at heart should have been, but when Wasliburii-lMlslmiy assum ed control of Hatch anil changed the bill so it was anti-option, in name only, decent men refused to rupport the bill or the present congressman from this district. The d 1. wants to know how Brouson stands on the question? He is in favor of prohibit ing the dealing in options, not to support a measure directly in the interest of mill and elevator kings. Senator Vest, the leading Democrat of this state, denounced the bill ts uassed by the house, after it was fixed by the Washbuin-l'iilsb-iry pi rates, in unmeasured terms. Vest fought like a man against the meas ure of the sell out Hatch, and every ric.id of the producer should support '.he senators manly stand against Washburn-Piilsbury and Vote against W. H. H.itch, the greatest hypocrite in the state. Xot to be equaled by the Democrats iti the south, a plot, was discovered last week to assinate Jerry Simpson by the Republicans. Ttiere is uo doubt in our mind but that the agi tation to regain the freedom of the citizens of the United States will re sult m the kil'iug of some reformer by the tools of monopoly. There never has been an agitation of this kind but what has resulted in blood hed. Look at the agitation to wipe out slavery! Several lives were offered up as a sacrifice. The slave holder of the present day the money aud monopoly will make even i more terific fight than the African slave holders, and the plot to assi nate Jerry Simpson is but a fore runner. The Democrat and H-pullican parties are in fayor of congress mak ing money and deposting it in the sub-treasury for bankers to loan at 1(1, 15 and 20 per cei.t to their own constituents the people. They fa yor payments of 20 per cent to banks for services that the government can do itself for 1 per cent. Out of the profits rings are fed, campaigns are run, votes bought over the mouth of a flower sack aud militia payed to quell the mob drove to desperation exactions and hunger. Remember, that this paper openly charge j Dr. Gristy, befor his nomin ation and since, with giving free rail road passe to favorite few. This charge has never been denied in pub lic by Gristy or by the lying Deuio- ! cratic sheet on the west side, which shows they are afraid we can bring the proof. Which we can do. At the last hour they may deny our asscrtiou. The voters are warned to be on their guard for something of that kind. A vote for W. II. Hatch is a vote to increase the power of the elevator, mill aud railroad combines to more largely control the price of grain. Down with that old cronic place- Imntue n.m V 'r.,r.. The salary of the Thomson county court for 48 months was less than $1,700. On the same basis, the salary of Burrus county court would be for 48 months (same time as Thom son court) the sum of $3,275.75, which is a loss to the citizens of the sum of $l,575.72,on excess of salary alone. The Burrus-Buford court has cost the county $08 29 for every month since they ware elected, $2.83 for every working day since they were elected, and the cost to the jn-ople of this county which will result from their work done during the past two years will reach the sum of $1,000,000 in twenty-five years. Henry Saling has drawn warrants from the county, over and above his regular fees as costs in cases in cir cuit court, the sum of $1,144.10; lack ing only $125.85 of being as much as both Sol Allen and John Graves drew from the treasury of the county in four years twice the length of lime served by Sailing. At the same rate Sailing would draw for four years, the iength of time served by loth Allen and Graves, the sum of $2,28S 20, or $1,022.25 more than Allen and Graves for the same length of time. These estimates do not include costs charged in the circuit court cases, but over and above said costs. The warrants issued and paid out by the county for costs in criminal cases, salary of prosecuting attorney ami traveling expenses, etc., in four years will reach the sum of $6,000. Voters of Scotland couuty, is it not time to have a change from Democrat ic r,ing rule in this county ? The people of Scotland county should rebuke, by their votes next Tuesday, the swill barrel eJitor and his pals that run the thing, wrongful ly named the Memphis Democrat, pub lished in J. W Barnes' building on the west side, whose editor is the pliant tool of Barnes and the slush fund campaign and brought here to do their bidding. Relegate him to the past, as the good people of this coun ty ilid with J. C. Kerby, who, as we are informed, only took a few of the cakes and '.old some lies, but the swill barrel takes the whole bakery and cries for in 'ire. Berkhimcr, of Kahoka, went over Clark county last week, telling tlie voters to stick by Turner on home pride and saying there was no politic in the otfice; aud now he is in Scot land county telling Democrats to vote straight. Bcrkhimer is trying to pay Turner for the fat job the judge gives his son, who has drawn about $3,000 out of the treasury of Scotland coun ty. Democrats, you have a chance to show your hand and give your county man a boost. Do it! Kemeinber, next Tuesday you have a chance to vote for y our home and family or for the monopoly leaders of this country and England. A vo!e for the People's party is a vote for the fireside, while a vote for the Democrat or Republican ticket is n vote for landlordism, trusts and com bines, and other systems of robbery. V. 1. King, a fanner near Miilon, Iowa, committed suicide last Friday by cutting his throat from ear to ear, for unknown reason. This is the third member of the same family to commit self-destruction. It is uecessary for every People's party man to go to the election early next Tuesday morning aud put in a hard day's work for himself and family. A vote for principles is never lost. .,. L. A.
