A hayride was given Tuesday night
in honor of Miss Gussye Goldberg of
Shreveport. A large gathering of
young people attended and enjoyed

City, who has recently been making a
study of institutional budgets in the
East, has been appointed superinten
dent of the Denver Sheltering Homo
for Jewish Children, Denver, Colora
do. During the war Mr. Gillman ser
ved as District Statistician and Sen
ior Examiner of the Great Lakes
District of the U. S. Shipping Board
Emergency Fleet Corporation head

Maurice J. Sievers, formerly Assis
tant Superintendent of the United
Jewish Charities of Kansas City, has
recently been appointed Executive Di
rector of the Jewish Federation of To
ledo, Ohio.
Announcement hni been made of the
engagement of Harriet B. Lowenstein
and Jonah J. Gol lutein of New York
City. Miss Lowenstein sailed recently
for Paris as representative of the
Joint Distribution Committee. Mr.
Goldstein will join her "over there"
and they will be married while abroad.
Announcement is made of the mar
riage of Jacob R. Fain, General Man
ager of the Hebrew Sheltering and
Immigrant Aid Society to Mils Estclle
Gottlieb of Washington, D. C.
Maurice Bisgyer, former Associate
Director of the Jewish Educational
Alliance in Baltimore, has succeeded
Joss Perlman as Resident Director,
and Lillian Pastemack has been ap
pointed Director of Women and Girls'
work at the same institution.
MR. JOHN L. BERNSTEIN LEAVES
FOR WARSAW.
The Hebrew Sheltering and Immi
grant Aid Society of America has re
reived a cable gram stating that Mr.
John L. Bernstein, the President of
the Society, left Paris for Warsaw on
July 2Cth.
During his stay in London and Paris
Mr. Bernstein studied the local situa
tion in regard to Jewish refuge and
Jewish immigrants generally.
While in Warsaw, Ms. Bernstein
will take up with the Society's Com
missioner in Europe, the various
problems that have arisen as t result
of the Society'! activities in Europe,
