Mrs. George Weinstein and Miss Mary Weinstein have returned home after spending a pleasant visit with relatives in Corsicana. Mr. Alex Zeve of Nacogdoches spent several days this week with his broth er and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Kahn. ( Miss Marie Joseph is the guest ol Miss Fay Meyers of Dallas. While there she attended the New Year ball and several other social activities. Miss Gussie Goldberg of Shreveport, La. is visiting her sister, Mrs. H. Bockstein. Leon Gross and Joe Sanger have been elected members of the Senior Board of the Chamber of Commerce, and Dr. George Fox was elected to the Junior Board. Mrs. A. Lavine of Dallas is the week end guest of her parents, Rev. and Mrs. A. Gordon. Lubin Elected Vice-President Mr. Harry Lubin, the popular cloth ier has been elected second vice-president of the Kiwanis Club. Dr. George Fox was elected District Trustee. Surprise Party. Mr. and Pete Cooles, 1209 Rio' Grande avenue entertained at a sur prise birthday party in honor of Mr. Charles Sandler, it being his twenty first birthday. Quite a large number of friends of the honoree were present The guests spent a very pleasant even ing with music, singing and dancing. Mr. Henry Wolf entertained with sev eral comical selections. Many games were played, after which a large birth day cake was cut, and ke cram, punch and fruit were served. Quite a surprise were the many valuable gifts present ed to Mr. Chan. Sandler. The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Hebrew In stitute will meet at the Institute Tues day afternoon, January 11th, at 3 p. m. All members are asked to be on hand. The Bible Class of the Ladies' Aux iliary will meet every Thursday after noon at 3 o'clock at the Hebrew Insti tute with Rabbi Abramomowitx as the leader. Boy Scouts of America, Troop 13, meet at the Hebrew Institute every Tuesday at 7:30 p. m. Jewish boys be tween the ages of 14 and 18 may join this troop by applying to Scoutmaster Ben Rosenthal at tha Packing House Market, or to Sam Zeitlin," assistant scoutmaster, at the meetings. Boy's Club and Scout Troop No. 10 meet at Beth-El Centre every Thurs day at 4:30 p. m. Matters of great importance were disposed of. Committees were ap pointed to purchase dishes for the kitchen; chairs for the meeting hall; tarpaulin for the dance hall; shades and draperies for the rabbi's study; furnishings for the ladies' and men's wash room. Mrs. I. E. Horowiti was elected corresponding secretary. The following contributions to the Temple Memorial Fund were announced: Mrs. Will Friedman in memory of her hus band, $6.00; Mrs. Ben Levy in mem-' ory of her mother $5.00; In memory of Miss Sarah' Carb, the following: Miss Ida Brown, $5.00: Mrs. ' Tillie Schloes $2.50; 'Mrs. H. Following the business meeting of the Parent-Teachers' Association met A paper written by Miss Annie Webb Blanton on The Relatonshp Between the Child, the' Parent and the Teach er, was read by Mrs. I. E. Horwitz. Mrs. Horwitz lead the round table dis cussion in a most interesting and cap able manner. Next month Miss Lena Gardner will address the organization. Beth-El Yeung Men's Club. The smoker given by the Club was a great success. About forty men were there and thoroughly enjoyed them selves. A vote of thanks was tendered to "Daddy" Flynn for the program', and thanks, were also given to Mr. Herman Lederman who furnished the cigars, and the Sisterhood for their sandwiches. The next smoker will take place the first Tuesday in February. The follow ing officers were elected: President, Abe Rosenstein; Vice-President, Sid ney Gilbert; Secretary-Treasurer, Ber nard Joseph. The BTnai B'rith Luncheon.' . .. One of the most successful B'nai B'rith Luncheon Club meetings took" place Thursday. The visitrs were the president' of the District, Mr. V. H. Hexter, and Rabbi David Lefkowits of Dallas. Both delivered splendid talks. Mrs. Morris, sang and Mrs. Weltman was at the piano. L. F. Shan blum was chairman of the day; David Colton presided, and Dr. George Fox introduced Rabbi Lefkowits. Mr. Shanblum introduced Mr. Hexter. The committee reported that all the lodges of the state hud been wired to ask Senators Culberson and Sheppard to use their influence against the pres ent Immigration bill. Complimentary to Visitors. The Misses Katie and Marie Cohn and Esther Weber, entertained the vis iting young ladies and their hostesses with a party box at the Majestic Thea tre Tuesday afternoon. Meyer Mehl's Bar Mitzvah. i . On Saturday, December 25th, Mr. and Mrs. Israel N. Mhl celebrated the Bar. Mitzvah of their son, Meyer, at the Ahavath Sholom Congregation. An unusual crowd attended the ser vices on this Saturday in honor of the Bar Mitzva and his parents. The Bar Mitzvah showed exarordin ary skill In reading the Maftir and Haphtora and big contributions were given to the various institutions by the members present at the servkss. All the children of the Sabbath school were presented with boxes of candy by the Bar Mitzvah Meyer Mehl. On Sunday afternoon a party Was giv-. en at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Israel N. Mehl, 1903 College Avenue to the friends and comrades of the Bar Mitz- vah. . ' ' ., Miss Hurwitz's Affair. On Monday, December 20th, Miss Anna Hurwitz entertained with ' a dance at Glen Garden Country Club, honoring her guest, Miss Sylvia Good man of Detroit, Mich. The Grand March was led by Miss Anna Hurwitz and Mr. Art Kolbrener of Cisco, Tex as, followed by Sylvia Goodman and Eph Rosen, Ethel Fox of Chicago, Er nest Marx; Anna Weingarten, Hous ton and Dr. A. Among the features of the evening was a lucky number dance in which Miss Annie Weingarten of Houston and Mr. Ernest Marx were the lucky couple.
