\Y C,' I ^. i: i- Pastor Russell Gives True Inter pretation of Scriptural Armageddon Brooklyn Acmtm of |1 8 Wll crowded to the II It today to bem Pastor Russell's discourse ou the "Battle of Arnm ixeddou." His test was: "He gathered them together unto nascwsm r, ''nT1 w",led 1,1 VT the Llebrew tongue A ruiageddo 11.' (Revelation svl. 16.) The speaker sniil: Armageddon In the llebrew sigmlie.-. the "Hill ot Megiddo." or Mount of L»e •traction. It was famous us a bnttlf field In Old Testament limes. The Lord has seen lit to associate the name Armageddon, with the great con troversy between Truth and Error, right and wrong. Cod and Mammon, with which this Aye will close, perish, and the New Age ot Messiah's glory be ushered MI. He lias purposely used highly symbolical figures of speech in lile last hook of the Bible, evidently with a view to hiding certaiu impor tant truths until the due time for their revealmcnt. But even in the due time, the Bible assures us. "None of the wicked shall understand" (Daniel xtl. 9, 10)—none who are out of limrt har mony with (iod-liut only the wise of His people—the "wise virgin" class ot the Master's parable. I have long avoided presentation of my understanding of our text and Its context. I take it up now by request and because I believe it is due time to be understood. I disclaim any special Inspiration. In some particulars mv views agree with those of other Bil!- students, and in other respects thev disagree. K.'ieli hearer must use ivti judgment, do his own Bible stml and reach his own conclusions. Kindly reirienilier that I am not re sponsible lor the figures of speech used by the Lord. My interpretations do in deed constitute a terrible arraignment uf institutions which we have all reve enced nnd which embrace good people, of good words and good works. (.Jod «aintly people in these various instil" Moris, being comparatively few, are Ignored when systems as a whole are (ealt with in prophecy. The Dragon, Beast, False Prophet. Our contest tells as that three Im pure spirits (teachings) will go forth from the tpoutlis of the Dragon, the Beast and the False Prophet, and these three will In accord, and symbolical ly the doctrines are represented by "frogs." These three doctrines are to have a mighty influence throughout the civilised en th. They* are to gather the kings and their armies to the great Battle of Armageddon. The ecclesiastical kings and princes, and their retinues of clergy and faith ful adherents, will be gathered In solid phalanx—l'rotestant and Catholic. The Icings and captains of Industry, and as many as can he influenced by them. (Till be gathered to the same side. The political kings and princes, with all their henchmen and retainers, will fol low 1u line on the same side. The Unsocial kings nnd merchant princes, and all whom thev enn influence by the most gigantic power ever yet exercis ed In .he world, will Join the same Bide, according to this prophecy. These "doctrines of demons." repre sented by the "frogs." will lead man* noble people in this great army to as sume an attitude quite contrary t their preference. For a time the wheels of liberty and progress will ne turned backward and medieval re straints will be considered necessary for self-preservntion—for the mainte nance of the present order of things. In giving this interpretation, it it necessary for us to indicate what If symbolized by the Dragon, the Beast, and the False Prophet. Bible student* of nearly nl denominations agree with ns that the "Dragon" of Revelatiot represents he purely Civil Pow -. Protestant Interpreters generally agree that the "T1'*ust like a leopard" (Reve latlon xiii. represents the Papacy But fewer •••'III. we fear, will lie ready to support our view that Protestantism Is the "Image of the Beast" (Revelation ziii, to) li-. Mir context given another name, "the 'alse Prophet." We urge no one to iccepr our interpretation, nor shall we think hard of anv who refuse it. A\'e will neither slander nor otherwise injure them now. nor threat en tlieni with eternal torture. Taev have the same nulit to their views tnat I have, Hsu the same right to make them known to others. And I. for one. will !e very slnd to consider any thing hioh opponents may set torth •s their interpretations of our text "Unelean Spirits Like Frogs." The symbolisms of Scripture, right ly understood, are always forceful When the Holy Spirit used a "frog" to symbolically represent certaiu doctrines or teachings, we may be 6ure the true application will fit well A frog has a sage look, a wise look It swells itself up In an apparent en deavor to Impress the Itebolrter. Its great mouth well represents its chiel power, used to croak. Applying these symbols, we learn that an evil spirit, influence, teaching Will come trom the Protestant churches federated, from the Church of Rome, and from the Civil authorities, all In -full agreement. The spirit of all will be boastful an air ot superior wisdom and knowledge will be proudly assuni ed-all will croak in harmony. All will tell of dire results that would follow Involving the interests of both the present and the future life. If theii counsel be not followed. However con flicting the creeds, the differences will be ignored iu the general proposition that nothing ancient must be disturb •d. or looked Into, or repudiated. The Divine authority of the Church the Divine right of kings, aside the Church, will not be alloweo to conflict Any persons or teaching* to conflict with these boastful and un •crlpturai claims will be branded at everything vile, at the mouths ot these speaking from pulfflta and and through the rellglout secular press. The nobler sent! of some will be strangled by th« Vv 'ii?, philosophy of the same evr/ spirit which spoke through Calaphas. th high priest, respecting .lesus. As Cnln phas declared It ei|edlent to commit a crime In violation of Justice, hnmati and Divine, to be rid of Jesus and III? teachings, so this "frog" spirit will ap prove of every violation of principle necessary to their self-protection. The croaking of these "frog" spirits oi doctrines win gather the kings and princes, flnnuclal. political, religion* and industrial into one great army. The spirit of fear. Inspired by the croaklngs of these "frogs." will scourge the passions of otherwtse good and reasonable men to fury, desperation. !n their blind following of these evil spirits, evlt doctrines, they will he ready to sacrifice life and everything on the altar of what they mistakenly suppose is Justice, truth and righteous, ness. under a Divine arrangement. For a brief time, as we understand the Scriptures, these combined force* of Armage'l-ioii will triumph. Free speech. fre» mails, and other liberties which have come to be the very breath of the masses in our day. will be ruth lessly shut off under the plea of neccs sity. the glory of God. the commands of the Church, etc. All will seem to be serene, until the great social explosion in our context described as the "great Earthquake" An "earthquake." in B.vmbolic uiguage, signifies social revolution, and the declaration of the context is that none like unto it ever before occurred. (Revelation xvl. is, 19.) .lesus described it as a time of trouble such as never was sincc there was a nation.—Matthew xxlv. 21. The Lord Will Gather Them. The false, frog-like teachings will gather together into one host the great, the rich, the wise, the learned and the kings of the earth, to battle. At this juncture Divine Power will step for ward, and our text tells us that llti shall gather the marshaled hosts to Armageddon—to the Mountain of De struction. 'he very thing which the" sought to n*-»rt by their union, federa tion. etc.. will be the very thing they will hasten. Other Scriptures tell us that God will be represented by the Great Messiah, and that He will be on the side of 'he masses. Thus we read In Daniel *11. 1: "At that time shall Michael lt'e Godlike One—Messiah] stand up"- -'ssume authority. He will take possesion of His Kingdom in a manner little looked for by many »f those who erroneously have been claiming th»t they were His Kingdom, and authorised by Him to reign In His name and in His stead. Jesus declared. "His servants ye are unto whom ye render service." Some may be rer '^ring service to Satan and to error. ~vho claim to be rendering service to '?od and to righteousness: and some or these may be serving Ig norantly. a" did Saul of Tarsus, who "verily thought that he did God a sen' Ice" In persecuting the Church. The same principle holds true reversely. As an earthly king does nut hold bim self responsible for the moral character of each soldier who fights in Ilia ba' ties, so the i-ord does not vouch for the moral character of all who will enlist and light His side of any question "His servants they are to whom the.v render service," whatever the motive or obfect prompting them. The same principles will apply In the coming Ba*'ie of Armageddon. God's side of that battle will be the people's side, and the very nondescript host the people, will be pitted at the begin ning of the battle. Anarchists, Social ists. and hot-beaded radicals of every school of reason and unreason, will b» in the forefront of that battle. The majority of the poor and the middle class prefer peace at almost any price. A comparatively small number. God's consecrated people, will at heart be longing for Messiah's Kingdom. These will bide the Lord's time and watt pa tiently for It they will be of good courage, knowing the outcome outlined In the "more s^ire word of prophecy." to which tbey have done well to take heed, "as unto a light shining In a dark place until the Day dawn."—II Peter I. 1ft. The masses will be restless of their restraints, but will be conscious of their own weakness as compared to the kings and princes, financial, religious and political, which will then hold sway. Besides, the masses have no sympathy with anarchy. They realize truly that the worst form of govern ment is better than none. The masses will seek relief- through the ballot and peaceful ro-ad,|ustment of earth's af fairs for the elimination of evil, for the placing of monopolies and utilities and the supplies of nature In the hands ot the people for the public gMd. The crisis will tie reached when the hither to upholders of law shall become vio lators of the law and resisters of the will ot the majority as expressed by the ballot. Fear for the future will lead the well-ineiiniug masses to desper ation: and anarchy will result when Socialism fails. The Cloud's Silver Lining. Horrible would be this outlook fof the future did we not have the infalli ble Word of God assuring us of a glorious outcome! Divine Wisdom has withheld until-our day the great knowl edge and skill which is at the same time breeding millionaires and discon tents. Had God lifted the veil a thou sand years sooner, the world would have lined up for Its Armageddon a thousand years sooner. But that would have been too soon for the Di vine purpose. Iiecause Messiah's King dom Is to le the great Thousand year-Sabbath of the world's history. God in kindness veiled our eyes until the time "-hen the gathering to Ar mageddon ?ould immediately precede Messiah's tsklng to Himself His great power, and lieglnning His reign.—Reve lation zl. 17. IS. "8end Them Strong Delusions." St. l'nul wrote prophetically of our tfme, that it would be one of serious trial nnd testing to many professing to be. Christians. The reason for this h« states—they received not the Truth In the love of It (II Thessalonlans U. 10. 11.) They preferred their own errone ous theories, the Apostle explains, and therefore God will give them over to a "strong delusion." and let tb£m believe the Ue which they preferred, and let them suffer for missing the Truth which they did- not love. Thus they will be In the condemned host "fight ing against God." because of their lack ot love for the Truth. It Is sad to say that we all as Chris tiana have been laboring under a thor ough delusion respecting God'a Plan. We have claimed that Christ set up His Church In Kingdom power, and that the Church has been reigning on the earth as His representative. On the strength of this delusion. Jews and heretics have been persecuted to death as opponents to Christ's Kingdom. All the while we thoughtlessly repeated the Lord's prayer: "Thy Kingdom come: Thy will be done on earth, ns 'n Heaven." We knew that the Redeemer said that He would come again to make us His Bride and joint-heirs but we ignored the Scriptures. We were drunk, as the Scriptures symbolically say. "all nations were drunk" with the false doctrine. It is this false doctrine that will constitute the "frog" spirit which soon will begin to croak and to prepare for Armageddon The Bible presentation Is that the world is a section of the universe In rebellion against Divine authority, un 4er the captainey of Satan and Ills as sociated fallen angels. By Divine grace Jesus has alrcadv "tasted death for every man." and the merit of that sac rifice tnust. eventually, grant Adam and his posterity a full, fair opportunity for the at' :nmcnt of everlasting life. All who tl- see the Divine program and are walking in the light may kno^ something at least respecting the "times and seasons." These brethren "are not In darkness, that that day (and that bnttl of Armageddon] should overtake" them "as a tiller* —un awares. Armageddon Not Yet but Soon. For forty years the Armageddon forces have been mustering for both sides of tbi conflict Strikes, lockouts and riots, great and small, have been merely incidental skirmishes as the belligerent parties crossed each other's paths. Court and Army scandals in Europe. Insurance. Trust nnd Court scandals in Vmerica. have shaken pub lic confidence. Dynamite plots, charg ed by turns on employees and on em ployers. have further shaken confi dence and tended to make each dis trustful of the other. Bitter and angry feelings on both sides are more and more manifest. The lines of battle are daily becoming more distinctly marked Nevertheless Armageddon cannot yet oe fought. Other matters Intervene, according to prophecy. Gentile times have still two years to run. The "Image of the Benst" of our context must yet receive life—power. The Image must be transformed from a mere mechanism to a living force. Protestant federation realizes that Its organization will still be futile unless It receive *-ltiillzntlon—unless Its clergy directly or Indirectly shall be recog nized as possessed of apostolic ordlna tlon and authority to teach. This the prophecy indicates will come from the two horned beast, which, we believe, symbolically represents the Church of England. High-banded activities Protestantism and Catholicism, opera Ing in conjunction for the suppression of human liberties, await this vivifying of the image. This may come soon, tint Armageddon cannot precede it, but must follow—perhaps a yenr after 1t. according to our view of the Prophecy Still another thing intervenes: Al though the .lews are gradually flowing Into Palestine, gradually obtaining con trol of the land uf Canaan, and al though reports say that already nine teen millionaires are there, neverthe less prophecy requires an evidently larger number of wealthy Hebrews to be there before the Armageddon crisis be reached Indeed we understand that "Jacob's trouble" in Ihe Holy Laud will come at the very close of Armageddon. Then Messiah's King dom will begin to be manifested. Thenceforth Israel In the land of prom ise will gradually rtse from the ashes of the past to the grandeur of proph ecy. Through Its Divinely appointed princes Messiah's Kingdom, all-power ful but Invisible, will begin to roll away the curse and to lift up mankind. Young Couple Happily Married Perry McHenry and Miss Florence Andreas Married at Stoddard Home Easter. The home of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Stoddard was the scene of a joyous event on Easter Sunday when Mrs. Stoddard's sister, Miss Florence Andress, and Perry Phil ip McHenry were united in mar riage, Rev. Pollard of Sentinel Butte, officiating. The wedding was a quite one, only the immed iate relatives of the bride and groom being present, and owing to the stormy weather it was im possible for the newlyweds to get to town and go on the trip that they had planned—so they were present at the Easter ball on Mon day night, going west on No. 5 from here that night. The ceremony was performed at high noon and immediately aft erward the party sat down to a wedding dinner that was sump tous—such a dinner as only Mrs. Stoddard knows how to prepare. The bride, as before stated, is a sister of Mrs- Stoddard and has made her home there for sevear years. She is a young lady of high character and has many friends who wish her well in her new life. The groom is a young man well and favorably known throughout Golden Valley county. He was among the first settlers in the Golden Valley county and is a prosperous young man—and one who will make a good home for the lady of his choice.—Sen tinel Butte Republican. If desired the furrow may be partially filled with a corn cul tivator- It is well to leave some thing of a furrow along the row as water from rains will tend to run in and irrigate the trees. But wait until you investigate. The K-R-I-T is a $900 car in price only. In real automobile value it is something quite different from the average $900 car. Once you grasp the significance of the K-R-I-T idea in building a car complete in one plant, instead of as sembling it from parts bought from other manufacturers, just then you will understand why a K-R-I -T can be compared with $1500 cars, just how it can be sold for $900.
