There no sub .OYAL. Royal i:. a pure, Picket. Wis., March 13, 1914. it As usual the Beach Advance, with the bunch of crooked politicians who are back of it, are working against the iaterests of the famers of the Golden Valley. They are now promoting an electric railroad proposition which upon its face is a fraud, and a game to extract donations from the farmers to go into the pockets of Chicago pro moters, and, evidently, some of it into the pockets of Advance stockholders. It seems strange that a so-called aewspapcr which is proported to be •wned by fifteen Beach business men, attorneys and politicians should de vote column after column in their paper to promote an electric railway through the Valley under such slimsy conditions as this man Hyde has pre sented. He asks the farmers to sign a contract and promises nothing him self, as his name does not appear on the contract which he asks the farmers to sign. Hyde says at the close of his recent leter in the Advance, "you have seen me and know I speak the truth," and on the strength of this unreason able statement asks the farmers to be lieve that he will build a railroad through the Valley costing in the neighborhood of $750,000.00, accord ing to his own figure*. If Hyde had told the farmers through the Advance to look up his commer cial rating with Dunn and Bradstreet, instead of saying, "you have seen me and I speak the truth," he would then have taken a step to get knowledge before the farmers that might prove of same interest to them. I had occasion to look Hyde and his promoters up in the Dunn and Brad •treet rating agencies, and have fail ed to find that they have any rating •t all, and yet they are looking to get $400,000.00 worth of the farmers' Botes. Hyde says in the Advance that if ke were a banker in Beach he would aot trust John H. Haigh with a cent. I wish to inform Hyde and his ilk that 1 have never been turned down by a bank when I have been in need of money, and at this time, in my op. ibion. the banks would sooner chance fheir money with prosperous farmers than with railroad promoters' who' have •o commercial rating in Dunn and Bradstreet. Hyde says the contract for the sub scription to the road from the farm ers, or rather the contract published in tbe Chronicle and fathered by me, would make every signer liable for the •ther signers now if this were a fact it woul dbe just the kind of a paper tkat Hyde and his ilk are looking for. Now as to the part the Advance is taking in the promoting of Mr. Hyde's game. I don't wonder when we stop and think of the part this paper has taken in the past, in public affairs in Billings county, when it supported and upkeld embezzlers, grafters and poli tical tricksters who have always preyed 'j upon the Golden Valley taxpayers !-j I do not wonder that this paper is aow boosting for Chicago promoters and attempting to assist these hot air artists in pulling the wool over the 'Garden Valley farmers* eyes in an at tempt to extract from them "bank .able" notes and other securities. They are attempting to do this upon the word of one individual, who, apparent, ly, have no commercial rating and whose only bond to you that the road will-be built is this: "You have seen 'me and know 1 speak the truth." Hyde says through the columns of tbe Advance that he does not know who "this man Haigh is," except that he is a Chronicle stockholJer and therefore must do its bidding. If Hyde write to some of the good Burkty !,{a«intters, they can inform him relative caruar ana OY/Oei'3 iieach, N. neacu, .\. ,n-h. N. oclsi-.nd. 'oilman 2ii aram. Dak. m,t Carlyle, Mont. .Beach, N. We need more newspapers like the Golden Valley hronicle, and more editors like J. W. rinton. We need more men like him public office. In my opinion, if the farmers would take more advise f'-om men like the Chronicle editor, and less from political tricksters, like some of those who are back of the Beach Advance, they would be better off and public matters would be more hon estly conducted. vu »h viic acivoitue it lo* yen.
