C., June 3.— Evidence of what appears to be a well organized campaign to de lude farmers throughout the country into buying an alleged cure for hog cholera, under the impression that this has been in vestigated and approved by the United States government, has reached the Department of Agri culture. Articles praising this medicine, Benetol by name, are being sent out widespread to .newspapers. These articles are so worded that it appears as if the department of agriculture ihad received reports from the state of Minnesota showing that the medicine had proved most beneficial. As a matter of fact Ahe one report received by the department was an unofficial and unsolicited statement sent pre sumably from the promoters themselves. The department at taches no importance whatso ever to this statement. It has no reason to believe in the efficiency of any proprietary cure for hog cholera and does not recommend any. Under certain conditions it revived at the quick and warm UHiarirLfamiijrjHjnjHJHJiJHrBnaaiagfBiBfiagR Bring in your mail j] order catalog and let us figure your biU S We handle everything to be found in large department stores. urges farmers to protect their stock with anti-hog-cholera ser um but that is all. In connection with this attempt it may be said that the medicine, which is now put forward as good for hogs, was advertised some time ago as a means of killing tuberculosis typhoid, and cancer germs, according to an article published in the Journal of the American Medical Asso ciation. At that time it was as serted that the Army was inter ested in it. As a matter of fact the Army was no more interest ed then than the department of agriculture is now. THE BIG STORE In view of the evidence that the attempt to create this false impression is persistent and wide spread, all hog owners are warn ed to communicate with the United States authorities before accepting as true any statement that the government recommends any treatment other than the ser um already mentioned. A party of young people from Sentinel Butte, on a picnic near Medora, were caught in the rain and hail storm of Sunday, and were unable to find shelter. The Beach Automobile Asso ciation, with sixteen laborers, carried in nine machines from Beach and Sentinel Butte, were working on the roads between Medora and Sentinel Butte Wed nesday, leveling rough spots and reducing center combs. This is on what will eventually be the Northwest Trail from the Twin Cities and it is thought that there will be active organization work begun this summer for what will be known as the "Red Trail." An innocent looking shower of rain appeared in the west dur ing the sultry afternoon of Sun day, but seemed to develop a it came nearer. It rained heavily with some wind and considerable hail. The storm was local in character at places close to Me dora no moisture fell, while at Sully Springs it showed some thing of the nature of a tornado.
