Vaughn and family catane down from Hodges last Sunday and spent the day with their relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Nichols. Mrs. W. D. Forsyth and Harry Miller left Tuesday for Minneso ta, where they will spend the summer with relatives and friends. Earl Ledger, who has been telegraphing here for the past year, left on Tuesday for Medora where he has been transferred. He will have a day shift on the new job. Fred Gilbert was quite serious ly hurt this week when a horse kicked him. The doctor reports no bones broken, but Fred will be laid up for a while. Having completed their school year the teachers returned to their homes this week as follows Miss Munson to Argusville, Miss Conmy to Pembina, Miss Dutch er to Hillsboro and Miss Adams to her claim north of town. Miss Hutchinson left a couple of weeks ago for Georgetown, Minn., and Mr. Gamber, as stat ed in another item, has gone to Ohio for the summer. Chas. R. McCloskey had bills printed this week announcing a Fourth of July celebration at the McCloskey ranch on Beaver creek, twenty miles north of town. A program of sports in cluding riding and roping con tests has been arranged, and the Sentinel Butte Saddlery Com pany is furnishing prizes for the occasion. A pair of $10.00 spurs, a riding bridle and mar tingale, and a navajo blanket will be given as prizes. The ranch is on Beaver creek and is an ideal place to picnic, there being plenty of shade trees and lots of water. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. VanDe water left last Saturday for Can ova, S. D., where, as announced in the Republican some time ago, Mr. VanDewater has purchased an elevator and will make his home. E. S. Neal, state immigration agent, was here from Bismarck last Saturday. Through his de partment Mr. Neal is preparing a state real estate booklet or bulle tin, and this booklet will contain choice bargains in farm lands from every section of the state. The expense is borne entirely by the state and it is expected that considerable good will result frcta the issue, in the way of land sales. Sentinel Butte real estate firms will be represented in the booklet, and any real estate firm in any vicinity that has one or two especial bargains that they want to advertise, may do so, by addressing Mr. E. S. Neal, state immigration agent, Bismarck, N. D. W MEDORA HERALD. As a freight train stopped at Medora Saturday mourning,/ the crew drove fourteen hoboes from their various roosting places. They got out of town on later trains. Mesdames T. V. Porter and F. E. Childs went to Belfield Sat urday. They attended a wed ding at the Frank Davis place Monday, the ceremony being for a daughter of Mr. Davis. Mrs. O. K. Kindley returned Thursday of last week from an extended visit in the west. Her health had not been good since leaving home, and she accuses the damp climate of the coast. M. C. McCarthy, of Beach, auditor of Golden Valley coun ty, was in Medora on business Friday. He is again a candidate for the office which he is now serving on appointment by the creation of Golden Valley coun ty. Miss Bessie Nichols returned Thursday from the St. Catherine school, near St. Paul, which she had been attending and is spend' ing the vacation. She intend.-) to go to California the last of June where she will visit at the home of her uncle. On the recently submitted bids for the Mikkelson star mail route, Archie Nesbit was declared to be the successful bidder. His term begins the first Wednesday in July, and is for five years. He is making arrangements for the necessary horses and carriages for the weekly drive. Mrs. J. O. Gray has some tad poles, or "pollywogs" in a gli bowl in the dooryard, and their development into frogs is being watched with considerable in terest. They are now at the stage of having tails and useless legs. They will be the ordinary brown frogs of the west when they are done. While driving after some hors es Tuesday at Merriiield creek, south of Medora, Wm. Merri field was thrown by his horse slipping and suffered a broken leg. He was attempting to head the horses toward home, and it was necessary to cross a small wash-out. There was another Wash-out intersecting the larger one, and he rode in that. The recent rains had hiade the clay soapy, and his horse slipped sud denly while going at full gallop, bringing Mr. Merrifield's braced foot violently in contact with the higher ground at the edge of the ditch and throwing him off at the opposite side. He was un able to walk or regain his horse, so he lay on the ground until a neighbor woman passed that way an hour later a team and rig and the injure dman brought to town. Dr. Davis was summoned from Dickinson, and he attended the limb on the arrival of No. 7, finding one of the bones of the lower leg broken. Mr. Merrifield went to the hospital next morning where a plaster cast will be aplied- Gieat Crowd Meets Governor Bergen, Norway, June 21.— Arrived here, all well, pleasant passage, great crowd. Fine reception by authorities of Bergen and delegations from Christiania. The above cablegram was re ceived from the Lincoln Mem orial tourists to Norway. Governor Hanna and several hundred Norwegian residents of this state who are en route to Christiana, to present the Lincoln memorial form this state to the government of Norway, have safely reached the other side. They sailed from New York June 12 and arrived right on schedule time at Bergen. The news of their safe arrival will be pleasing information for the thousands of Norwegians of this state, who had relatives and friends on board. Governor Hanna and party will be at Trondpehm June 25 and will not reach Christiania til |uly 2, two days before the pre sentation of the Lincoln statue. The official visit of Governor Hanna with so many prominent Norwegians of this state shoulc attract thousands of irrfmigrants from there to this country. The number during the past few years has been very small. Leading Norwegians predict the advertise' ment that North Dakota will re seive through the governor's trip will result in large delegations coming to this state next spring, not only from Norway, but from Sweden and Denmark, which countries he will also visit.
