Miss Marie Dahle left Mon day afternoon for a visit with her relatives at Albee, S. Dak. The M. E. Ladies' Aid was entertained at the home of Mrs. M. A. Staddard yesterday after noon. Sprague purchased a new autoomobile .the latter part of the week, so as to be fully equipped for the hunting season, which opens in this state on September 7. Mrs. J. B. Linger and children returned the latter part of the week from a two month's visit with relatives and friend3 in Louisville), Kentucky and other eastern cities. This, with the revolv ing electric fan system which was recently installed, should change the air in the building frequent ly. Tony Witzig started up his threshing machine the first of the week and after threshing out a small job near home, went to the Szudera farm northeast of town. The first job did not turn out very well, but the wheat on the Szurda farm was running at 20 bushels to the acre and was No. 1 grain. Several important civil serv ices examination will be held be tween the dates of September 9 and November II, 1914, among which are listed positions in the Philipines, Panama canal, coast, naval, engineering, engraving and iirchitectural departments. For further particulars apply to George Hougen at the local post office. An ice cream social will be given under the auspices of the NX Oman's Club for the benefit of the puilbc library, Wednesday, August 19th, in the United Brethren church, from four to six o'clock in the afternoon, and on the lawn in the evening. A number cf specialties in ice cream and ices will be served, also popcorn and candy. Music by the Beach band during the evening, also vocal selections. Tickets 1 5 cents. Adv. A number of the lady friends of Mrs. C. H. Letson took pos session of her hdme on last Mon day evening, dyring that lady's absence, the occasion being an anniversary date of her birth. When she returned and turned on the lights the occupants of he house had ample assurance fhat their efforts to surprise had been successful. Various amuse ments were indulged in during the evening and at the proper time light refreshments were cerved by the invading host.
