The meeting o£ the precinct commit teemen of Barnes county passed off yesterday without the semblance of a contest on any of the offices. Sallowing the preliminary organiza tion, and the work of the committee on credentials, Harry Green of Leal was placed in nomination for chair man of the county central committee. Sis nomination was confirmed by ac clamation. Burl Carr was named as secretary, and A. B. Cox member of the state committee, were named by acclamation .without contests in any case, as was Sam Aandahl, for com mitteeman from the thirty-eighth dis trict. Following the elections, Chairman Green was called on for a speech, and. briefly expressed his appreciation of the honor which had been conferred upon him. He declared that now as never before he looked forward to an end of the strife which has caused •dissension in the party in Barnes •county the past, and expressed the be lief that there was a strong tendency to eliminate factional differences and get together for the good of the party. For the remainder of the offices, J. J. Taylor of Oriska was unanimously elected treasurer, and the following members of the advisory committee: ILee Cowell, Eckelson W. J. Pickett, Rogers Geo. Fridd, Valley City Lew White, Litchville K. S. Ramseth, Fin gal, Jesse J. Taylor, Oriska and E. A. Duff, Dazey. Italian War Vessels sunk By Turks ATTACK MADE ON THE DARDA NELLES THIS MORNING—^RE PULSED WITH HEAVY LOSS Constantinople, July 20.—'Eight Ital ian torpedo boats attacked the en trance of the Dardanelles at 10:30 yesterday morning. The Turkish forts replied vigorously, sinking two of the Italian war vessels and damaging the •other six. The cabinet ministers were hurried ly called to the palace where at a -council of war, it was decided to close the Dardanelles. A. PICKETT WILL MOVE HERE AND TAKE ACTIVE PART IN THE COMPANY. Mr. P.. A. Pickett, cashier of the Bank of Leal, has joined with Mr. Hil born in the active management of the Northwest iNursery Co. This enterprising concern has been growing by leaps and bounds. It started four years ago with a mere garden patch. Today they have over 100 acres devoted to the interests of tree growing. They are shipping car loads of tree every spring and fall all over the northwest states and Can ada. Their -business has been feeling the effect of the tree planting cam paign that is being waged by schools, agricultural interests, magazines, gov ernment, agents, and .others. Bruno Zytko Faces Charges at Fes senden Term. Fessenden N. D., July 24.—(Bruno Zytko, charged with the murder of John Kutman, will be placed on trial Thursday in the district court. Kut man was murdered early last winter, his body being found when the snow melted, and Zytko was arrested in Illinois, being one of the last men seen with the murdered man in this vicinity. Kutman, in company with Zytko and Kempi, left Sykeston together No more was heard of them till Kut man's body, robbed of cash and jewelry was found. Boy Attempts to Shoot Fireman on N.P. Train GRABS GUN AND FIRED AT TRAIN MAN WHEN ORERED FROM BLIND BAGGAGE. •Harry Davis, a fifteen year old boy, attempted to play the part of Jesse James this morning while coming into town on (Northern Pacific train No. 6 from the west. The fireman of the train saw the young fellow riding on the blind bag gage as they approached the city, and crawling over the coal as the train slowed down, ordered him to leave. The boy, who had not yet graduated into long trousers, resented the fire man's interest in his departure, and drew a big Colt'e revolver from his pocket, firing it at the railroad man. The brakeman retreated, but called in the valiant chief of police when Valley City was reached, who took the lad in charge.' In justice court the boy was charg ed with carrying concealed weapons, but upon his promise to get out of town in a hurry, the gun was taken from him and he was given a chance to "beat it." (From Monday's Daily.) Jamestown defeated Valley City last night in a score of 5 to 2 in a game which was featured by mud scow work on both sides. Jupiter Pluvius reigned during the first inn ing, when for a few moments, it look ed as though the game would be call ed off but the sun came out and the game went on, merry as a marriage bell. Leahy and Gilchrist did the honors on the mound and both pitched good ball. The game was air tight until the first of the sixth when the visitors found Leahy for three hits. The dose was repeated in the seventh inning, two runs being scored in each session. The teams will meet again tonight with Foutch probably pitching for the locals and Hansen for the visitors.
