This monument consists of gigantic railroad proper
ties, huge milling industries, large terminal facilities, vast
Jjankirig institutions and many allied and interlocking interests.
This monument is a necessity for it is useful, ^'-ii ¥MV*1
North Dakota must use just such a monument. §!$
But North Dakota should own it.
But instead, North Dakota has built this monument and
men who have in no way contributed to its construction own and
-control it, -By virtue of such ownership this monument becomes
a burden to the people who must use it

erected this monument. It was born of their sweat and toil.
But instead of being a boon to them it is a burden to them. They

xxAnd while they maintain and support it, its ponderous weight
crushes thpm down, holds them down, squeezes the prosperity
out of them, keeps them fighting the mortgage' and keeps their
children out of University and College.

North Dakota are,fighting fortheir dearest rights, for the future
of their children, for industrial and social liberty.
