Mention the Leader When Writing Advertisers FARMER BURNS UP BACON H. D. SmitH of Springfield, Col., sends the Leader a five-page letter which he received recently from the redoubtable Jerry of Grand Forks, N. D., from which it appears that follow ing his "great success" in his home state Jerry is anxious to build up the League in distant Colorado. Just to prove to this Colorado man that he is a farmer, rather than a hotel owner, professional League buster, news paper proprietor and man about town, Jerry uses a letterhead emblazoned with the photographs of three good looking head of cattle and mentioning the hogs, chickens, ducks and, geese. For fear that Mr. Smith may be a little slow of understanding, Jerry uses this head for each page of his letter contrary to war-time economy and business practice and he takes two of the five pages to describe his farm exploit^. Here is Mr. Smith's reply: Springfield, Col. Dear Brother Bacon: I received your letter of July 26 and have waited all this time to get those pamphlets we call "Jerry's Hot Air." I have not received them yet and I think you have used pretty good judgment in not sending a span of them for you have been so discredited that I could not believe a word that you would say either in letter or in p'erson unless the statements were verified by someone that I knew was competent and reliable. As far as my being able to judge a man of being this or that, I think that almost any man could judge you by what the atmosphere carries. Big business and its followers are now getting their last breath. Their grave is being prepared just as rap idly as the farmers can prepare it and. its funeral will be preached in November at the general election. I will extend to you and your associates a special invitation to attend. We will have a big love feast just two years from that date, or in November, 1920. Be sure and come out to it. This will be worth your while. We will by that time demonstrate to you and big business things of real merit. Yours very truly, H. D. SMITH. Since the "first farmer of North Dakota" fails to impress, why not have John D. Rockefeller, the biggest farmer in New York state, write to this brother farmer? WOMEN RUN CURB MARKET A curb market recently organized by the women "of Miamii Fla., has proved, so successful that the city council has taken it over as a munic ipal enterprise. The plan was work ed out by the urban home demonstra tion agent of the United States de partment of agriculture and the state agricultural college, together with several of Miami's public-spirited women, in order to give fairer prices to both the housewife and the pro ducer. A committee co-operates with nearby truckers in arranging for the produce. The truckers' are planting every two weeks in order, to guaran tee the women a, constant supply of fresh vegetables. Fruit eggs, butter, cottage cheese and poultry are also sold. A fee of 25 cents is paid by all those selling products. This goes into a general fund for advertising the market and keeping the street clean. room, who refuses to take thnas as they- are has the sturPofwb/dh progress tsmide. r-'C.V}* O N RFPATRS PAGE ADVERTISEMENTS Rf^ist rryd NUXATED IRON !J' "Say, Doctor, This jT Prescription Works *1 like Magic."
