In regard to my membership,
I am sorry to say that I am at
present, I think, among the
poorest people of the world. My
intentions are good and I will
pay that check this fall if I
raise anything, and things look
good. I haven't been a pauper
all my life, had flu, smallpox
arid the itch last winter—every
thing has gone wrong. But it
can't always stay that way.
Have a big family and am glad
of it. But I am awful hard up
now.^ 1 am- doing everything I
can in this corner. There will
be a lot of fellows vote right
here. I was to the county treas
urer's office and gave a list of
my few belongings. When I
told tiim I didn't have a chair
in the house, a fellow said, "Git
him twice." I told him to start
on an equal with me and I would
starve him to death.

Editor Nonpartisan Leader:
As there is an ever-increasing num
ber of "Well Stick" men in Okla
homa, permit me to tell them what is
going on here. The farmers of dis
trict 79, Pawnee county, have outlined
a policy and are asking the support
of every believer in good government.
We believe that Oklahoma has been
misrepresented in Congress and we
are recommending a law defining cer
tain actions'of our representatives in
Washington. This law, if enacted,
would make it a felony for congress
men from this state to ^ote for uni
versal military training, for conscrip
tion of its citizens for military service
on foreign soil, to vote for any meas
ure which is antagonistic to the demo
cratic principle of equal rights, or to
vote for any" measure designed to pre
vent or suppress the expression of
opinions by persons or the press on
all subjects relating to politics, re
ligion or the policies and practices of
the government.
We never can have a government
responsible to the will of the people
until we compel it to be so.

It is the opinion of the editor that
while the purpose of the proposed bill
is correct, it will fail even if passed,
because it will be impossible to make
it stand in the courts. North Dakota
has found a way of making the gov
ernment responsive to the people. The
people elected men to carry out their
aims, and organized to maintain the
strength necessary to back up their
beliefs. A law is only as good as the
persons who administer it, and it is
better to elect men who administer
the existing laws for the benefit of
the people than to pass other laws to
guide the officials who have no inten
tion of being guided by the common
