Formal charges were filed against Bouck with the Na tijnal Grange, but the state conven tion upheld Master Bouck by practi cally a unanimous vote. Bouck has been charged with being "radical" and with supporting" "I. W. W. poli cies," obviously a f&lse and contempti ble charge. The convention indorsed the Seattle Union Record and the Yakima American as daily newspa pers friendly to the cause of the com mon people, and condemned the kept preSB of the stated People's banks to itreak the monopoly of the big finan cial and business interests on credit and financing were urged in resolu tions. The next annual meeting will be at Colville. The Washington Grange again demonstrated its pro gressiveness and fearlessness. ^MINNESOTA The big daily papers, the attorney general and the Hennepin county (Minneapolis) Republican central com mittee have got together to intimidate Leaguers to prevent them calling for /aid voting the Republican ballot, on which League candidates are running. The attorney general was forced to concede in his opinion that Leaguers or any one else have a right under the law to call for and vote a Repub lican ballot, and that if challenged election officials must give the Repub lican ballot to the voter when* he makes out an affidavit th«t he "gen erally supported" Republican candi dates at the last election, which affi davit any Leaguer can make with a clear conscience. This opinion con firms one by the League's attorney, but the attorney general says that prosetutions can be brought against Leaguers for making the affidavit if they are challenged, as Leaguers' are not Republicans. In reply to this the League cites the law and shows that election officials have no right to ques tion voters but must accept their affi davits, and that no prosecutions are possible. The League also offers to protect all members in voting the Re publican ticket and making the affi davit and quotes the corrupt practices act, which makes it a felony for elec tion officials to threaten or* intimidate voters. The plot of the gang to bar Leaguers from voting has thus miser ably failed and few, if any, challenges are expected at the polls. Farmers are going to refuse to answeir Ques tions' and stand on their rights to vote under the law. NEBRASKA Great interest is being aroused among the railroad brotherhoods of Nebraska over the local political cam paign. Men now engaged in organiz ing the Workers' Nonpartisan league among them report that they- find the railroad men ready and eager to en roll in such an organization. They have discovered that the Nonpartisan league, which has nowhere near the numerical strength, of the railroad brotherhoods and organized labolr gen erally, is feared far. more by the pol iticians because it is organized as a political weapon, and they are deter mined to inake their organizations ef fective in politics aiso.. Mayor Wray of York, Nonpartisan league candidate for governor, opened his campaign in Lincoln before a local club on the evening of May 28. He declared that the leading problem be fore the people of Nebraska was the question of food, and urged that ev erybody get behind the farmers. He also urged the adoption of the prin ciple of government ownership, and government" competition against mo nopoly. The time is near, he said, when all who serve witji hand or brain will unite to achieve political and in dustrial freedom.
