FROM A LABORER
Editor National Leader: I have
been a farmer most of my life and am
a day laborer now. I carry a union
card. I have had access to a few of
your papers and I believe we are
wholly to blame for our condition. If
the farmers and laborers worked to
gether for a while we could demand
justice. The big boys are organized.
Ten or 15 per cent of the people own
all the money and the other 85 or 90
per cent are working hard every day
for them. They are now getting such
large salaries and excessive profits
that the 85 or 90 per cent can't earn
enough to satisfy them. It looks from
where I stand that they have all the
money and are in power to tell us
what we must do.
I just, read your railroad article of
October. The boys got a raise, but it
took a good while to get it, but it
didn't take long to raise the rates. I
see you say 20 per cent. It looks more
like 120 per cent, and then the rail
roads laid off more men than the raise
amounted to and then agitated for a
wage cut. They have already got one
wage cut aind are trying for another

object can also be named. Webster's Inter
national Dictionary will be used by the
judges.
4. Be sure you number your words, start

5. All solutions will receive the same con
sideration regardless of whether or not a
trial coffee order has been sent in.
6. In the event of a tie for any prize of
fered. the rulf amount of such prize will be
awarded to each tying contestant.
7. All solutions must be mailod and post
marked not later than May 15, 1922. The
'•dges will meet two weeks later to decide
the winners. The list winning first prize,

will be published and mailed to persons
