Andirton, President of the West Kentucky Industrial School located in that city, was one of the strongest wit nesses who claims to have seen the man and wife standing near the Rowlandtown Church, quarrelling just about dark. Undertakers Mc Crary, and Carter testified that small bits of leaves and ttash wss found in the young woman's hair, and only slight bruises about the lace was seen. Att’y. The police and detectiv.es were glad'to get hold of this guy as they had just defrauded an old colored wo from the South Out of $93 00 and j men out of different amounts. It , was the lost pocket book game they tried to pull off on the editor On entering the cities avoid the large crowds and taking up time with strangers. Several delegates lost money while in Norfolk, by pick-pockets. It is said to have more thieves than any city of the South. A mob of 30 men stormed the jail in search of a Nt gro who was being held for a«N smiting a little white girl, but who bad been sent to St Augus tine by court officers early last night, following threats of violence binding their intended victim gone, the crowd seized two Ne groes charged with the murder re cently of George Dubose a white man, took them to the outskirts of the city in automobiles and shot them to death. They then plac ed ropes about the necks ol the bodies and dragged them through the city streets. One body was dropped in front of a leading ho tel. The other has not been fnund I ( but he wants to be liberal and be lieve he dropped it while making change, as he hates to own that he was stupid enough to be held up in broad day light. Jones Re-elected Twenty Thousand Dollars Raised For Theological Sena* inary At Nashville, Tenn, Prof. Kelley Miller, Given A Big Ovation at Armory Hall. The National Baptist Conventir n (unincorporated) which convened in 2nd Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk, Va., Tuesday morning Sept, to, was called to order by President Dr. K. P- Jones, at to o’clock, with several hundred pre achers and lay delegates present from every state of the Union and many cities who came with the spirit of Christ and a determinate n to exceed all former meetings spir itually and financially All agreed that itc convention had grown by leaps and bounds since the. Chicago meeting and the leaders themselves were surprised at the hundreds of new recruits ; from every state I President Jones address was a i master-piece and was eagerly sou ght by delegates and laymen. The reports from all the Board1 I showed that the secre'aries and | chairman were men of business and were entitled to re-election. Pres : dent Jones was re-elected without !any opposi ion. The Woman's Convention met in the Butte, St., Baptist Church, ; where they had an exceptionally j large delegation and a successful meeting Mrs Georgia DeBap tiste A hum, was re-elected. l our Thousand Seven Hundred Do lars cash was placed on the ta ble and with the pledges made to be paid in November brought the total amount up to $20,000 for the National Theological Seminary at Na-hville, Tennessee. The ne gro Baptists will own a National School bought and paid tor by their own money. There was great rejoicing when it was announ„ ced that money was in sight to meet all financial obligations. Prof. Kelley Miller. Dean of Howard University, Washington, D. C., one of the greatest think ers and writers of the Race, was given a great ovation at the Ar mory Hall. The building proved to be too small for*the people who clamored for admission, several hundred being turned away.
