Ark., Dec 24.— Following the shooting oi Deputy Sheriff Grant Farris, I..s!ic Smith a Negro, was taken by a mob ami lynched. According to repot ts, the depu ty went to the Negro’s home to arrest him for peace disturbance and during a controversary, in which heated words were exchan ged, it is charged that Smith shot die deputy, inflicting a slight wound from which he will recov er. 1 he deputy succeeded, how ever, in lodging his prisoner in die county jail. As soon as the news spread oi the wounding of Deputy Farris by a Negro, a mob of nearly a thous and formed and gathered at the county jail, clamoring for blood.
