Court House Briefs. I' J. G. Purple, representing the Mutual Life Insurance Co., wasGratz, looking up old and new customers in the courthouse on Friday of last week. County Treasurer Norin is visit ing at his farm in Colfax. Register of Deeds Olson is al ready moving some of his property preparatory to leaving the office in the first Monday of January next. The auditor's office is at present the busiest one in the courthouse. The force of workers is thru com paring the new tax lists with the assessment books after having com puted all the changes made bv the county and state Boards of Equal ization. They are now busy add ing the valuations in the different school districts preparatory to fig uring out the rates of taxation. The County Board of Auditors is in session checking up the treas urer's accounts and books, as re quired by law. Supi. Frederickson is busy visit ing district schools so as to get thru by Christmas. On Dec. 7, Wm. 0 Johnson, clerk of the municipal court, paid into the county treasury $20, being fines collected for illegal fishing. About 80 people were present to welcome the new leader of local Methodism and his wile to their new field of activity. On behalf of the Presbyterian church, Rev. Buell delivered a brotherly address of welcome, closing by extending the hand of fellowship to Rev. Grays and his wife. Rev. Gates of theSpring Epi pal church sent a letter ex pressing greetings of welcome, and a message of regret that he was un able to be present. The new min ister was received with great en thusiasm as he rose to reply to the kind things said and dune. In the course of his response he said: "I trust that we shall always merit the kindness and courtesy which you have shown toward us tonight. I trust that the winter of Methodist bereavement is now over. I was busy and happy in my last charge, and it is my intention to keep on doing the best I can in my new field. As regards my theology, Je sus Christ is its center. He is the sum of my creed and the inspira tion of my preaching. I hope to cooperate with all the other church es so that, altho we work in differ ent fields, there may yet be discern ible between us the bond of Chris tian sympathy and love."
