M'y&$M$iM$M 0 SCENE IN ACT III--WAY DOWN EAST "Way Down East," which is to be the holiday attraction at the Turner Theatre, is one of the 'greatest dramatic successes of the last quarter century and has made its fortunate owners not only rich but recognized as standing in the very front rank of theatrical promoters. The play tells a story so simple and yet so powerful that it appeals to everybody at once. The pathos however is only one side of the picture, for the quaint New England characters who flit around the stage provide plenty of the element of humor to relieve the tension and give opportunity for hearty laughter. The tears and joy follow each other like the sun and showers of springtime, and in the end the benign in fluence of justice done and virtue rewarded soothes and satisfies like the green of a peaceful landscape* N eighborhood Mr. Aug. lUymann of Graceville was visiting his bt'ochera here a few days last week, Mrs. B\ Adam and children left Satur day fur Vesta where she will join her httsbauO. Last weeks markets**were''dull'WiB customary during the holiday season. Prices were allowed to decline a little but firmed up towaicU the end of the Week. Aside from the ho'i'lay dullness there is nothing which wairants a de eliue. The Venezuelan incident made' longs timid because a wur between the United States and England Germany would interfere with exports, but all in dications JIOW are that the affair will be peaceably se»tledi Western primary re ceipts for thSs week are Smaller than they wtre last week though higher than last year. Receipts at Minneapolis have been quite heavy, the premium paid there for spot wheat diverting the larger share of northwestern receipts to that market and stocks there are increasing, though they are still about 4,000,000 bushels less than they were last year.' We have excellent authority for the statement that during the last 30 days interior ^levators have been ordered to ship put stocks on hand and that they are now wel)i cleaned out which accounts for the recent heavy receipts and foreshadows a suddeu decrease in receipts. The ex cellent demand Shows that millers are trying to supply their future needs while prices of good wheat for some time and are pleased to see our opinion confirmed by the "Modern Miller" which authority states. "That stocks of wheat aje de creasing at points of accumulation show ing that most of the good wheat has been marketed." The authorities are pretty well agreed that good wheat will be scarce before spring, Exports for the week are moderate, about 3,250,000 bus. but sales have been made duly show ing that American wheat is on a com mercial basis in the world's market. To wards the end of the week the foreign demaud improved and on Saturday 836, 000 bushels were sold for exports and clearances on that day were 908,000 bus. Latest advices from Argentina are that general rains are falling. The foreign as well as the home situation is bullish. While we exptct quiet markets until after Jauuary 1st we fully expect to see a sharp advance sofn after that date. A Cou WAVE.
