The new hook and ladder truck manufactured by The Seagrave com pany, reached New Ulm yesterday. It was shipped from Columbus, Ohio, on December 5th. Humors of a third bowling alley have been heard about the streets this week. There is talk of organizing a stock company and opening in the Boesch building. A man wants a pipe or box of cigars for Christmas. SO make up your mind nothing else will do. You can be sure to get exactly what he wants from our stock. In fact every thing in the smokersr line to make a man happy. Max BURG. Theo. Schonlau was called to Chi cago Sunday by a telegram announc ing that his father had been injured. Since his departure no details of the accident have been received. The dramatic section of the Turn verein has engaged the New Ulm opera house for the evening of Janu ary 3rd, when they will give the four act comedy, "Dr. Wunderhch." William Epke, a young man 23 years of age, died Friday at the home of his mother, Mrs. Henry Harmoning, near Courtland, of spinal trouble. He was buried Monday from the Courtland Lutheran church. The company which played "What Happened to Jones" here Sunday night is in financial straits. They stranded in St. Paul and did not have enough money to get on to Brainerd, where they were scheduled to appear Mon day night. Sleighs and cutters were in evidence Saturday for the first time this winter. Friday evening there was a good fall of fine snow and the following morning the weather was very crisp with the theremometer at 5 degrees below 2ero. Fred Seiter and family reached New Ulm Saturday night from Spokane, Wash. While Mrs. Seiter and children remain in New Ulm Mr. Seiter will make a trip to Chicago and New York in the interests of the Evergreen State Front company and will remain absent until after the first of the year Sunday, Dec. 20. Rev. S. C. Edsall, Episcopal bishop of the Diocese of Minnesota, will conduct both morning and evening services at Gebser's Hall. At 10*30 in the morning comfirmation will be administered, and the Holy ommumon celebrated for newly con oaed and others. Evening service at 30 The Bishop will preach morn ing and evening. Sunday's St. Paul Globe contained the following dispatch from Northfield* J. C. Vigran of New Ulm, eighteen years of age, who was arrested for trying to pass a bogus check at the Northfield National bank, has been bound over to the grand jury on, a charge of forgery and lodged in jail default of $500 bonds. The name of Vigran does not not appear in the directory and the young man is not known here. Dr. Kohler, of Minneapolis, will be in New Ulm, to do eye. ear nose and throat work, Sunday Dec. 2Qth. A German chemist has discovered a preparation which will prevent the frosting and sweating of shop win dows, and the American consul at Coburg has written the state depart ment in Washington about it. The application consists of a mixture of 55 drams of glycerine dissolved in a liter of 62 jer cent alcohol, containing to improve the odor, some oil of amber. As soon as the mixture clari fies it is rubbed over the inner sur face of the glass. No frost forms and tnere is no sweating, the bug bear of storekeepers during the winter months. Brother newspaper men gave the Review many complimentary notices last week upon its sixteen-page edi tion, for all of which we are grateful. The following from the pen of the genial Col. C. F. Mallahan of the Jackson Tribune, is a specimen: "The New' Ulm Review, this week, contains 16 pages, 6 columns to the page. Of the 96 columns, 70 are advertisements of the business men of that city. It is certainly about as "healthy" a look ing paper as we have seen for many a day. The Review is one of the best weekly papers in the state and is de serving of its liberal patronage." For the occasion foe dining room of the bigjiostelry was very tastefully decorated^ A large tin wedding bell was given a con spicuous place at one end of the ball and leading from it were streamers of holly, the whole producing a most pleasing effect. At the splendid course dinner covers were laid for fifty and following the banquet there was dancing.
