This is particularly true <> those countries recently locked in in the strife of nations, our owi is included. Foreign peoples are manifestly not in position to pr< duce in proportion to their ie quirements for some years to come. America is. The semib t thing', then, for America to do i.~ to increase its production, to do tile, and treble it. This can be done. Two essentials to this end are paramount: Quit squahbli g among ourselves, ar.d GO TO WORK. America is is rich now. But in a few years, if we all go to work and proeuce to the limit of our capacity, we will have provided the necessities for which the world cries, ane we will have en riched ourselves beyond the dreams of avarice. Every one will become a plutocrat. Go to work! Work harder! Stay with it! Your ship will come in and your dream will come true. Opportunity is knocking load-! ly at our community door. It s insistent that it be permitted to enter. The world is crying for the products of the factory and of •lie soil The demand is greater than ihe supply: America can upply that demand—if it will. We can supply our communi ty portion—if we will. Out are we alive to the m^rve lons opportunities that are of fered us? Or are we peacefully sleeping while other communities skim the cream from the milk? Tuck up, fellows! Take a fresh start! Double the production next year. Forge ahead, and make 1920 the banner year of our locaj existence. CUOSS ROADS Joel Tomme of Farrsville Tex is hero to spend the holidays with friends. WINCHES- | TER &AYS IT IS TIME TO AWAKE AND D23TROY TH5 QREAT WHITE PLAGUE. By the Rt. Rev. James IL Winchester, Bishop of Arkansas. We have just com memorated the first anniversary of ths armistice Mint Faved the lives of thousand.!* o f our splemUd young men. There is, however, going cn at our very j firesides a worse warfare. Throo thou sand deaths in our own Stats last year came from the horrible missiles sent forth from the enemy wo call th® white plague. The very flower of our manhood and womanhood and beauti ful childhood wither under the poi soned gases this monster erjitn. The attractive nomes of toaay are covered with a pall tomorrow because the white plague is allowed to go on his way. I We read the fabled story of The Mino taur of Crete with curdled blood, be cause an annual offering of one maid en and one boy was demanded by the j Monster. The white plague is never: satisfied though his victims are mil-1 lions in the great world. ' It is high time to awake and destroy! this enemy.- What can we do? Every; man. woman and child took a part in j the later.world war and shared in the j glorious victory. It is equally ihe duty j now (o have like enrollment against I tuberculosis. The Red Cross Seals are within the reach of all and the pro ceeds from the sale of the R-.-d O?on Seals go toward destroying some of the pernicious germs which threaten your ! own home. Every new member is a j volunteer to aid his comrades in talcing i the trenches of this enemy, whose ma-i c-hine guns are doing fearful demage j wherever turned. Our governor has wisely issued a j proclamation, regarding the duty of our citizens In the warfare against the white plague. Christian people are | praying and splendid physicians are1 giving their bflst thought to end the ; battle. Every one in Arkansas can at least put a Rod Cross Seal on the little message that goes out at Christmas in memory of the Christ Child. Under Ills blessing the beautiful rosea on the cheeks of happy Hfo shall soon escape tiie foul breath that blights so much Hiat is lovely in the world today. Join the army and buy Red Cro3r 1 Seals. hzlp caucz c" ke;alt;i iNCun ANCE. One out of every nine deathsdn the cities is due to tuberculosis. Careful Investigations and reliable statistics prove that where sanitary conditions are improved, the rate of mortality de creases. This accounts for the fact it la mwcr ia uie city man in tuc country, where the rate is one in seven. However, theft? remains much to be done in the way of better Jiving eond! tiens in the citic>3. The people are just beginning to loam how they may guard against tiio insidious ad vatice» of tuberculosis. Trained workers are studying carefully the disease and the conditions which produce it, and in lo calities where methods of prevention are more closely followed, there have been very marked decrease ia the rate of mortality.
