An old lady said her preacher was a godlike character in this, that he was invisible and incomprehensible, invisible during the week and incomprehensible on Sunday. A certain Scotchman, being asked “What is conscience?” answered: “It is something in me that Bays; I wont”. Many a man mistakes stubbomess for conscience. Last week Senator Morgan, now 82 years old, made a strong speech of two horns length on the canal bill. The worst of all men and the most formidable enemy of all good is the man who seeks official positon in order that he may make a gain by violating and encouraging and protecting lawless. By order of the president an investi gation was made as to the age limit of efficient service among the Clerks in the public employ at Washington. 1626 clerks were examined, who were over 65 years of age, of these 90 were recon ed to exhibit some decrease of efficien cy. Only 10 were pronounced inefficient and superannuated. It is comfort ing tosome of us to know Dr. Osier’s idea that, as for any need the world has with him, a man at fifty had as well be chloroformed, may not be put on prac tice for a time Thanks to Roosevelt. He has proven a friend to humanity in many ways. Many a reputed good man will wink at wrong doing in others if only it bring him gain. In union there is strength. \ A dozen men united by the strong bond of self interest will prove too \ strong for a hundred so-called good men seperated by jealousy and distrust. There are some young men in Pres cott of whom it is said: “They always j pay their debt-sand keep their promises". The community expects of such an honorable and successful future There is little help in tears, but som * people mak** life a funeral procession and expect their friends to follow as cheif mouri e -s. They tell us only < f their flekne ises and miseries. We like ; the spirit of man who said, “I dont ii - tend to die as long as 1 live". This s im m r has not been hot enough ’ to give the fashionable people a good excuse for going abroad. It seems that the hottest days have been Sunday’s judging from church delinquents. There are often spasms of reform in acommunity which are like the repent ance of a man after a spree, only the reaction of debaunch; but the real ton- i ing up of the moral seniment of a peo ple is not the work of a day or a year but of a generation. The greatest success in life that any man attains is the development of a noble character. We deliver drugs store articles.— Hesterly Drug Store.
