JUMPS ON RUSTY SIDEWALK NAIL
While working on a well digging ma
chine a Minnesota man jumped upon a
rusty sidewalk spike. The nail drove
part of his black woolen sock far up
into his foot. He removed as much of
the sock as he could, put on Allen’s
Ulcerine Salve, and kept right on with
his work. The salve drew out parts of
the sock and all other poisons and in a
week his foot was healed up.
This salve is one of the oldest reme
dies in America and since 1869 has been
knowrn as the only salve powerful
enough to cure chronic ulcers and old
sores of long standing.
Allen’s Ulcerine Salve acts by draw
ing out the poisons and healing the sore
from the bottom up. It is so powerful
that it heals new cuts and sores in one
third the time that common salves and
liniments take. And it heals scaldB
bums without a scar. Sold by Hester
ly Drug Store, and other leading drug
gists.
Keep the little chicks where
they can get in the warm sun
shine these cold days and they
will grow and thrive better than
in the summer, when it is so hot.
Keep them out of the cold rains.
Feed plenty of good feeds after
they are a few days old. Never
feed them anything the first day.
I feed commercial chick feed,
but corn bread, damp mash, etc.
is good. Give them plenty of
green feed, also some kind of
grit. Grease their heads and
necks with lard or sweet oil to
kill the head lice. —Progressive
Farmer.

A sentence which we ran
across in a county newspaper the
other day appealed to us asstrong
ly as any sentence we nave read
latelv. Iam a believer i:i pro
gressive ideas, wrote a corres
pondent of this county paper, if
it dosen’t cost anything. There
is, in a nutshell, as he said the
reason why so many people are
deadset, against any movement
for the advancement of their
neighborhood, and why they be
come mere obstacles in the path
of progress. Thev do not mind
the progress, but they wan*, it
without paying for it. So,^ of
course, they dont’t get it. The
world doesn’t work that way.
Progreis, like every other good
thing, costs something—both in
money and in effort. The man
who is too stingy to pay his share
or too lazy to do his part isn t
going to help a bit in any good
work, and it is iheer imprudence
