Ben Shaver atty. ad litem. w-26 -o-— It is a mistake to put off road build ing waiting for lower costs. All ex pert authorities agree that the price of labor and materials will never again approach the pre-war level. The war ended last November. Since that time the mercantile world and the building trades have bought from hand to mouth waiting the drop. It has not come. With the country nearly five years behind in construction, and no construction of consequence of a peacetime nature going forward dur ing that time, what is really to force prices down when the grand construc tion rush does start? Figure it out to suit yourself, but ier3 build these roads now and begin using them. A j modern r,oad system will make a great I county of this. Ths next five years will see more real farm development and city improvement than has the last twenty, if we build the roads. DeQueen will send some prominent 'speakers over to the Bankhead High way Convention at Mineral Wells this month to pull for the Oklahoma route. DeQueen i3 all right, but if DeQueen gets the highway, Ashdown don’t. Since we have gone as far as we have, why not go the rest of the way and have representation at this final and deciding convention? The argument is in our favor ,but may not avail us ! if not properly presented. In this county during the last two years more land has been bought, not by non-residents, but by home people than ever 'before. Any real estate man will tell you that his business has been good, and will tell you that most of the deals made by him have been between neighbors. We like to see this because it discounts that old gag about catching suckers. These peo ple are buying because they know and have faith. Crowd your acreage with corn, Vel vet beans, soy beans, cowpeas, pea nuts and sweetpotatoes and Little River county farmers will keep the railroads hot from here to Kansas City next year with cars of fat hogs and cattle. fThe by-product will be increased fertility to your soil. Corn planting is fairly on the way throughout the section, and the rains' the latter half of the week were an advantage. From all accounts the acreage is being increased over last season, and the prospects for a, larger feed crop of all kinds seems assured.
