ODD FELLOWS DID REJOICE Last Saturday Was One of a Great Time and Many People For Idaho Springs. The fact that it is a week since the Odd Fellows capQured the city and again turned it back to the proper authorities with many thanks makes the news con cerning the big day a bit stale at this time. It would be unfair, however, to pass the matter without s >me mention in a general way. It was the largest crowd of people Idaho Springs has entertained for some time, and one of the most enthusiastic. From the Colorado and Southern records it is shown that over 400 tickets were sold from outside points for the celebra tion. Central City and Black Hawk fur nished their good proportions for a spe cial train and Golden and Arvada did the same thing. Three bands were pr sent to discourse sweet music to the people. The line of march was a particularly attractive fea ture. It formed about 2 o’clock and’the people of the city all turned out and completely occupied she curbs and every available place where it was possible to catch a glimpse of the men in uniform as they marched past. From nearly every business place a large sign floated from the breeze with an inscription of welcome to the visitors. Across from the depot Chairman Broad had erected a royal arch of evergreen bearing the three links and the word " Welcome. ” Uneer this arch the visitors all passed in the line of march. It made Idaho Springs appear metropolitan to see such crowds and hear the music of the bands floating down the streets while the little army marched to measured time. At the Opera house the services were interesting and impressive. Chairman “MOFFAT FINE,” HAS FOUND A LOCATION Will Be Built as Rapidly as Capital and Labor Can Carry It Through to Salt Lake. Nearly two months ago when it seem ed as if everything was uncertain as to where the “Moffatt Line” would be built Siftings published an article, inspired by a telephone message from Denver, stat ing that the line would run two miles north of James peak, and would build a spur to connect with Central City. Many of our subscribers doubted the statement and insisted that the line would either pass through Idaho Springs or go through Yankee and Alice at least. The official announcement is now made that it will go byway of Rollinsville, build a spur to connect with Central City and pass two miles to the north of James pea'c. An interesting feature in connec tion with that portion of it is the fact that a tunnel will be driven two miles to cross the range at the point north of the peak mentioned. Idaho Springs might as well give up the idea of getting this line and if, as it is stated, the Rock Island has purchased the Colorado and Southern, then it is safe to go further, as suggested a couple of weeks ago, and say that it will be a long time before a main line is sent on its way up Clear Creek canon. It makes little difference to Idaho Springs whether she is made a city on a main line or not. She has the gold and silver, the climate, the scenery, the hot and cold mineral springs and everything to make her a great mining and resort city. Whether the line comes or not makes little difference. The following from the Denver Repub- Cadet Committee Visits Again. Last Sunday Messrs. Sales, Main and Brown, representing the cadet committee visited the city again, and were shown the various camp grounds by President Birkins and others of the chamber of commerce. It looks very much as if Idaho Springs would succeed in getting the encampment for June. The young men are greatly pleased with the treat ment accorded them by the mayor and council and the citizens last year. The matter will be decided early next week. Broad in his address of welcome told the story of Idaho Springs’ welcome to the Odd Fellows. Mayor Trat hen was not expected to make a long address, as he never does, but he was expected to make every word reach its destination, and this he did in characteristically vigorous style. He told the visitors that he appre ciated the bonds that bound them to gether ; that heknewof the broadness of their fraternal character and of the high sense of honor begotten by contact with such principles. As a parting word he invited them to take everything they wanted and feel that the city was theirs. Secretary Van Norman’s address was full of,fralernalism and recited the his tory of the great order from the time of its inception by the great Wildey until the present time when thousands and thousands in all parts of the world bow at the shrine of the great organization he founded. In the evening the concert and grand ball was a brilliant success. The visitors all had a good time and were apparently pleased with the generous enterprise of their brothers in Idaho Springs who had spared nothing in rnakiue preparations to entertain them so nicely. A feature of the anniversary was the presence of so many ladies of the Re bekah. From Central City. Black Hawk, Arvada and the upper end of the county the representation was indeed good, and these ladies were well cared for by their sisters here in the city. Taken in every way the great celebration in commemor ation of the eighty-third anniversary of Odd Fellowship was one of the most at tractive and best attended that has been held in Idaho Springs for years. I lican of Tuesday morning, taken from the official prospectus issued by Mr. Mof tatt, tells the story for itself: "From Denver the line will go west by as straight a route as possible. It is al ready built as far as Arvada. The coal fields of Coal creek will be the next ob jective point, and grading to this point is already in progress. The next point on the line will be Copperdale station. Thence the line will run through the northern part of Gilpin county byway of the Rollinsville pass. A branch will be built from Rollinsville to Central City. The line will pass out of Gilpin county through a tunnel two miles north of James peak. This tunnel will be 11,000 feet, or a t ifle more than two miles long, and at an altitude of 9,000 feet. It is es timated that two and t*pe-half years will be required to complete the tunnel, there fore arrangements have been made to build a switchback as a temporary line over the peak, to be used until the tun nel is finished. In Grand county the line will pass througu Hot Sulphur springs, thence will proceed over the Gore range and down the Bear River valley to Steam boat springs in Routt county. It will traverse a distance of 120 miles west of Steamboat springs, in the expectation that its rich pastoral, agricultural and coal resources may afford a profitable local traffic. Thence the line will run through Uintah and Wasatch counties, Utah, crossing extensive beds of gilsonite and the most extensive deposits of hydro carbons in the world, and through rich, agricultural sections.” Stockholders’ Meeting.
