THE IDAHO SPRING SIFTINGS A Few of Idaho Springs Great Tunnel Propositions COLORADO'S RICHEST SECTION Last year's production j of the precious metals In j the Idaho Springs Dls- j trict was $1,504,200, j* j* s* This was! a gain! of 35 j percent over the prevl- < ous year's production. * The district has eighteen concen trating mills. It has three sampling works. The city has a population of 4,000 people. It has two banks with a deposit of $500,000. The district employs 1,600 miners. The amount paid miners in 1901 was $420,000. The district has five of the largest tunnels in the country. It would be impossible in the space in the two columns on this page to give anything like a complete descrip tion of the best things of the district. The Newhouse tunnel, which is now in two and one-half miles, has proven that ore bodies continue with depth in the district. It is recognized as one of the foremost tunnel propositions in the world. Over a dozen different companies are drifting on veins cut by this great tunnel. The Central tunnel is another big proposition to be driven five miles through one of the richest ore-produc ing strips in the world. It will cut veins known to be big producers and is now on the way as fast as electric energy and modern machinery can drive it. The Monarch tunnel is driving for the great Freeland vein and practical ly owns everything in front of it. It will be driven four miles and enters an exceptionally rich field. The Burns-Moore tunnel will be six miles in length and is also going through a rich section. It is repre sented by one of the strongest com panies in the district. The Lucania tunnel will be driven two miles into Gilpin county and has the reputation of being the “Queen of the Bunch,” when the great tunnel organizations of the district are spoken of. It is backed by Colorado Springs capital and every business man in Idaho Springs is a friend of the proposition, because it is solid, substantial and aggressive. The Big Forty tunnel is also a good proposition and will cut hundreds of rich veins on the line to its objective point. A glance at the map will show it to be one of the largest in the dis trict and its territory is as good as the best. Since the map was issued, home people have organized the Argus Tun nel Company, which will cut the rich veins of Gold hill and become one of the richest propositions in the dis trict of great tunnel enterprises. A block of the stock in this company is being offered outside Investors and Is going rapidly. The Golden Hill Centurion, Vidler, Omar, Donaldson Mountain and sev eral smaller propositions are all con sidered good investments and to-day a tunnel proposition in the Idaho Springs district is almost certain to bring returns upon money placed in the way of an investment. Among the properties in the dis trict of almost national repute are the great Gem Consolidated, the Lamar tine, Stanley, Shatter, Specie Pay ment, Lexington. Seaton, Freedland- Bxtension. Fraction, Bertha, Gum Tree, Franklins Consolidated, Crown Point and Virginia group, Belman and others that are dividend payers and properties in which it would be next to impossible to obtain an in terest. Among the important properties in the district in which the investors will share soon are the properties of the Colorado-Oregon Company, up Fall river. The tunnel is now in on this property 350 feet and while little is being said the showing is indicative of big results in a very short time. The company owns twenty claims, or seventy acres, of rich mineral-bearing ground and will not be obliged to purchase anything. One of the pos sessions of this company that makes It appear stronger than any other in the district is the fact that within a radius of 800 feet from the mouth of us? THE RICHEST TUNNEL
