Additional Mining News. Th«r Torpv*lo tunnel is now over 1300 feet in length. The Tropic mine is producing • fair grade of smelling ore. The Gem Consolidated company is oh taining fioo ore in the Freighters’ Friend. Leasers on the Fraction are shipping smelting ore that ranges from £4O to Jloo per ton. The Comstock is making regular ship ments of smelting ore of an average value of fan a ton. The Last Hope mine of Yankee hill is among recent shippers, the result being 2 >4 07%. gold per ton. The’sbatt *e of the West Notaway mine, Russell gulch, was destroyed by fire last Sunday and the machinery dam agrtl The M. and M tunnel is yet 2jo feet from tbe main vein. It is reported that a contract will s*x>n lie let to cover that distance. The Idaho Springs parties operating tbe Wautauga mine, Russell district, are now taking out tie water above the seventh !rv- which will be thoroughly exploited. Shipments from the Lamartine mine for some months have been confine*! principally to a limited number of leas ers. Foreman Lang, K. F. Lougee and m few others are among the lucky ones. The !»ig upraise in the Gem will be finished about the Ist of DeremFier. it is said. Then will come the work of run ning levels and properly operating the 1000 feel or more of territory penetrated by the upraise. "Like t’ucle Jimmy Deever, I believe there is * tellurium belt in that moun tain, ' said M B GraefT Thursday a» he looked toward the Silver Age group of mines. He s doing some prospecting in that direction. Sam Nash and Jesse Randall, two in fallible mineralogists of Georgetown, have given tbe rich streak occurring in the Solid Muhloon a careful analysis and pronounce it a clear case of polylw site. Superintendent Coddmgton feel* highly elated, as that means very rich ore. The upraise at the Jo. Reynolds will be complete*! next week, which will open up yto feet f new ground as well at give access to tbe older and extensive workings Tbe yooo-ft. tunnel of the Reynolds i* <>ne of the most ini|M>rtant umlertak ngs of recent years For some time important shipments of 5150 smelt ing ore in carload lots have !>een con signed to the Chamberlain sampler of this city, the product of leasers. This ore comes from that portion of the vein intersected by the tunnel, and its value and location signify that the mine holds its values very nicely. An important addition to the number of men employed may be exjarcted with the completion of the raise The vetncrossed by the Central tunnel last week and mentioned in Siftings at the time has proved to of considerable importance there being a to-inch smelt* ing streak assaying 1% o is. gold, 20 o/.s. silver and sufficient lead to bring the total value up to S4B jnrr ton. There is in connection with this streak two and one half feet of c<mcentrating ore ranging in value from fa to $1; per ton. When the Edgar vein is reached, and which is rxjiected with every round of boles, there should be a combined showing of ore that will be very satisfactory to the management. The new vein is situated within the F.dgar patent and it is thought that the two veins will cotne together « short balance the tunnel. Then watch for big ore. On last Monday afternoon Frank Barry employed at the Western Star group of claims, on Chicago creek, was severely injured by a cavern of rock from the foot will. He was shoveling at tbe time. Up to the time of going to press Dr. Atcheson, the physican in attendance, has been unsble to decide tbe extent of tbe man's injuries, but as be was resting easier last evening, hopes are enteri«iued that Burry will not be permanently dis abled. For some time it was feared that be had receive*! internal injur e* and that his life was in danger, but happily all the rumors floating prove*! without foundation. Mr. Burry is an oldtune butebe of Denver, having l«en en<aged in lha* ! business there for years. He is a mem her of the butchers' union and of tbe Harukan, a secret order. He came to this county some years since, having been unsuccessful in bia business veulure* in Denver, and for five years worked and leased upon the Lama tine mne He afterwards was employed upon other proper:ies in that vicinity, but some months ago he moved bis headquarters to this place and has recently beeu em ployed at the mine where he received his injuries. He has quite an extensive ac quaintance here and is well like*! His favorable conditiors are there therefore received w ith satisfaction by many.
