IDAHO SPRINGS COLORADO Subscription, - 12.00 Per Year State Engineer, J. E. Maloney was in the city tbs week and in spected the new l»oiilevarde . He thought the work done by our cit izens was not only remark.ib*e but highly creditable. the democrats are jubli mt over the convention going on in Chic ago in the republican national com mittee and among the leaders, thinking it presages victory tor them this fall. They will find that they are reckoning without the voters to back up their present jubilant feeling. There may bi ff is*, ent ions within the republican ranks now but the people are not ready to turn over the affairs of the countrv to democracy. When Judge Hen Lihdsev de serted the democratic party to be come a progressive republican with the vice presidential nomina tion in expectancy, he left just such a vacancv in the democratic ranks as one leaves in a pool of water w hen he sticks his finger in it and then contemplates the hole left behind. When he started for New York to consult with the Sage of Sagamore Hill and on arriving in Chicago decided that he must stay there to settle the controver sy there was a seismatic shock experienced in several parts of the but the earth continued to revolve and the sun_ to perhaps the stars sang together as usual. The republican national conven tion will assemble in Chicago next Tuesday. It will be the ex iting one in the history of the par ty but watch for the bright blue sky when it adjourns. The deni ocratic party hopes to thrive on the dissentions instead of through merit. It will meet with dis appointments. Among the names mentioned for State Treasurer on the republican ticket, is ibat of Guy C. Hardy of ('anon City. 'Hie party could scratch the state over with a rake and not get a better man for this position. He is the personifica tion of integrity, geniality and abil ity. He is a thorough newspapei man and as one of the best repre sentatives of this boosting frater n hy it is about time that it was rec-| ogni/.ed in dealing out the offices and no better representation of the moulders of public opinion can lie found in the state. Guy has been a “hewer of wood and a drawer of water” for years and he has earned this distinction and should receive the unanimous sup port of the republican party. When ever be has been weighed in the balance of good deeds for the State he has never been found wanting. The pepublican party could confer no greater honor on itself than by thus honoring him and be will measure up to every requirement of the position and ao C induct the affairs of the office that it will bring lasting dignity and glory to the office. The rep üblican press af the state should BOOST for him for he is pre-em inently worthy. •y Camel Acroee the Bahara. I ast publication. July 13. 1912. Moses, Electrician. That electricity must have been known to the ancients has been many times asserted, but now comes for ward an electrician in Munich—Mr. Stadelmann —who has been in times past an archaeologist, to assert that he found in Rgypt, in buried wails, in dications denoting the use of electric lamps, says a writer in Harper's Weekly. He claims that Moses brought electricity from Egypt, and that there are Biblical paragraphs which will bear him out in his state ment that lightning rods were in use in the temple at Jerusalem. Stadel mann believes that the serpent of bronze of Moses was nothing more or less than an ordinary llghtnfng rod such as is in use today. He points out, further, that the Ark of the Covenant, made as It was of wood and adorned inside and out with gold, constituted a veritable Leyden jar which communicated with a light ning rod on the roof, and that it was ao arranged that under determined conditions it could be charged with 1 electric fluid and produce the death 1 of any ignorant person daring to en ter the sacred precincts of the ark 1 without necessary precautions. 1 - 1 — - 000 IhePEOPLE 1 1 IbOlArv I I \ o ~ 4 o ® We shave clown on prices when we first * o mark our goods. 2 o Every thing in our store runs smoothly, be- ° o cause we always keep on hand a full stock of § O o ° everything a first-class hardware store should o ® o o Carr >* o o We star d fcchird everything we sell and ® o ? o “make j? od" on every deal.
