UNANIMOUSLY ENDORSED BY STATE FEDERATION 60,000 Peopte In Demonstratlon at State Fair; Democratic Candidato Acclaimed by Republican Farm Leaders. Twice in his own State last week, and among two distinct classes —tlio farmer and the labor man—Governor Alfred E. Smith’s popularity was so spontaneously and so enthusiastically atteated, that any lingering doubt of his tremendous strength among theso privileged to know him must certainly have been dispelled. Governor’s Day at the State Fair at Syracuse, attracted more than 50,- 000 people from the rural {Hstricts, and proved to be one of the most impressive demonstrations ever ac corded a presidential candidato. Again and again throughout the day the fair grounds resounded with tu multuóos cheers for the guest of honor. Republican and Democrat joined in acclaiming the man who as Governor had won the ardent friendsliip of the* farmers of his State. Labor Demonstration At a meeting of the State Federa tlon of Labor, in Rochester, the Gov ernor’s ñame, uttered by William Green, president of the American Federation of Labor, brought an ova tion almost unprecedented in a labor gathering. Congratulating the State Federa tion iyion having obtained "the best body of labor laws of almost any State in the Union,’’ Mr. Green said he realized-the State had been for túnate in having Mr. Smith as its Governor. Instantly tha 472 delegates and al most as many visitors wero on thelr feet cheering wlldly. For a long time, while tho speaker waited, the uemon stration continued. Then Mr. Green said: "You have been fortúnate indecd, in having as Governor one who was In full sympathy with your social jus tlce program and who assisted in se curing this legislation. Great Outstanding Figure "I am glad that a study of the rec ord shows that the working men and women In this State showed their ap •preciation by voting for him almost unanimously in every election in whích he figured. "This great outstanding figure has now been called to a largor field. I rm convinced that Governor Smith’s speech of acceptance and hls refer ence to the abuse of injunctions has made a deep impresslon on every in dustrial State. "It is the purpose of the American Federation of Labor to acquaint its members with the speeches of ac ceptance of both candidates and their records in matters affecting labor, and then leave the subject to the political consclence of the working men and women of America. "And I am satisfied that when they go to the polis, they will stand by those who stood by them in their ihours of need.” Endorses Governor Smith A resolution endorsing Governor i Smith and calling upon labor every where to support him, was unani snously passed by the Committee on Aesclutions of the State Federation. Another demonstration occurred at BjTacuse, when Governor Smith ad dreised an almost solidly Republican i of 250 farm leaders, at a dinmw given in his honor by Jerome D. Baynum, publlsher of a Republican newspíwer, the Syracuse Post Stand- I ard. Gov. smith Convinces Big Business Men That Farm Prosperity Will Aid Industry That Governor Smith, In hls de termined stand on behalf of agrlcul ture, has already acconipllshed great things for the farmer becomes more npparent every day. Governor Smith Is convlnclng the important busluess men of the East that prosperlty of agrlculture means as much to them as it doea to the farmer hlmsclf.
