El Valle del Rio Grande desde Pe
fia Blanca hasta San Marcial ha vuel
lo a ser visitado por las inundaciones
u consequencias de las lluvias torren
ciales. traídas por actos de la Provi
dencia. en les últimos dias de la se
mana pasada, del 19 al 22, causando
mucho daño a las plazas y cemente
las. Comenzando en Peña Blanca
Jas del mes de Agosto se redujeron
en su crises a la parte sur del valle
de San Acacio en el condado de So
corro para abajo; ahora, los daños
causados comnzaron en Peña Blanca
donde aterró o terraplenó muchas
aicjmbras de frijol y otros cereales,
causando alli un perjuicio de varios
miles de pesos, mas abajo, en Bernali
lio la creciente del rio inundó la pla
za y siembras, causando mucho daño
n la planta de acerrar y a los labra
dores. En Alameda, de igual mane
ra, el camino real entre Albuquerque
y Santa Fe, se haya en una condición
deplorable, cerca de pueblo de Sandia
se aterró elcamino, por la lluvia y
crecientes de arroyos de la Sierra de
Sandia, que aunque esto pavimenta
do, el terraplén que trajo la lluvia
liizo imposible que se pudiera pasar
con seguridad alli por varios dias.

lon muchísimo perjuicio por la cre
ciente del rio y por las crecientes tral
cías porros arroyos al oriente.

es tuvieron amenazados por la corrien
1n tan enorme que traía el vio, el ai
que o diques arriba de Alameda, fué
necesario que fueran velados, hacién
dose necesario que la gente de Alame
da, Ranchos de Albuquerque y algu
nos de fa ciudad salieran a la defensa
para poder salvar la ciudad de una
terrible crisis. Mucho crédito se de
be a los esfuerzos y valiosa ayuda q’
dieron los vecinos de los aquí ihensio
nados lugares bájo la dirección del
Sr. J. C. Smith, comisionado del rio
cu aquellos lugares. Por un tiempo
ci domingo y lunes el dique se rom
pió, y descargaba el rio como cuatro
o cinco pies de agua, haciedose nece
sario que sehiciera un chorro de hom
lires d estos pusieran aacos llenos de
tierra y cascajo en el socabón. Mu
cho crédito, como queda dicho, mere
