Among the political “hasYeens” as a result of the late election in this state is former Governor Charles 8. Thomas. Mr. Thomas has a well earned reputation of going back on his real political friends and lining up with his political enemies. It is too bad that a man of Charley Thom as’s great mental endowments should be so afflicted. He always does the wrong thing at the right time. Goodwin’s Weekly says: “Over the eastern results the Democrats are exultant, but they should be careful. There is no telling what their major ity in congress will do in the next two years. They are in the habit of proposing just exactly such legisla tion as insures their defeat the first time the people can get a chance at them afterward. We commend them to be on their good behavior.” L. J. Tagert (Rep.), for county treasurer, had no opposition, but in order to see that Link got through all right sundry persons cast 561 votes for him. J. D. Moog (Dem.), for ‘county surveyor, likewise had no op? position, but in the eleventh hour some one sprung Martin Paulson of Buford in opposition. Dan’s friends, however, were equal to the occasion, and they rallied round him and car ried him to victory by a plurality of 52J1 votes. Western Colorado newspapermen will be sorry to hear of the death of William McCabe, editor of the Eagle county Times (Red Cliff). Mr. Mc- Cabe died at 3t.* Luke’s hospital, Lqadville, last Friday evening, of pneumonia. When himself, Mr. Mc- Cabe was one of the ablest country editors in Colorado. Our sympathy goes out to his bereaved family. The Chicago Inter-Ocean charges it up to Roosevelt’s enormous ego tism. Just as good a place as any to put it.
