W. B. Tanner, of New York,
son of B. M. Tanner, arrived in
Paonia Friday evening. He was
called here by the serious illness
of his father.
Mabel Burkhart, who has been
visiting in Pueblo for the past
month, returned home last
Wednesday. She says she had a
very pleasant time while away.
T. O. Rusho lost his little six
year old son Wednesday evening.
The little fellow had been ill but
a few days. The family have the
sympathy of all in their affliction.

now. His large orchard is a scene
of great activity.

with an attack of diphtheria. Dr.
Follansbec is attending her.
Mr. and Mrs. Jake Heberling
and Mr. Kemp have returned
from their camping trip up in the
hills.
Mr. Tennant, of the Hotchkiss

Paonia and went over to Crawford

We should like to call the at

press work done in this shop.
The town council failed to get
a quorum together last Tuesday
and adjourned over to Friday
evening.
During the absence of John
McDonough on his hunting trip
W. S. Edwards held down the
blacksmith shop in good shape.
Herbert Wheeler, of Grand
Junction, arrived in town last
Sunday evening and will visit
with the Allen family for a time.
The Paonia High School nine
played ball with the Hotchkiss
nine last Sunday for the gate re
ceipts. The score stood If! to 2
in favor of Paonia.
The millinery opening by Hycr
& Ward at the Ladies' Bazaar this
week was largely attended by Pa
onia ladies. Their display of fine
millinery was duly appreciated
and evidences that Paonia has a
first-class establishment in this
line.
Huge loads of apples are reach
ing the packing houses at inter
vals of about five minutes during
the entire day now and other
packing gangs arc working like
beavers in the orchards. Practi
cally the entire apple crop is
already marketed and at prices
that guarantee prosperity till an
other crop is made. There is
nothing like living in a locality
where the returns for labor arc
certain and sure.

The hunting party composed of
John McDonough, Ed. Stevens,
Matt Cavanaugh, W. J. Reid, M.
Clay and Henry Spencer, re
turned Wednesday night after
a long trip with but very little
success. They had good grit,
staying out till their grub gave
out, but they did not get a shot at
big game.
Palos and Loyd Carpenter, of
Cebolla, came into town Thursday
to bring in a couple of Cripple
Creek men who had been taken
ill while hunting up in Coal basin.
They returned this morning to
take charge of Judge Beaman and
Tyson Dines and steer them
against the largest bear in the
North Fork.
