Wiltberger resigned as pastor of the Congregational Church last Sunday after four years of service. He expects to return to his former home in Illi nois. He and his es timable wife count as their friends all who know them. The musicians of Paonia will give a recital in honor of Mrs. Joe Crook on or about the 14th ot January, prior to her leaving for Chicago to resume her musi cal studies. They will be assisted by Mrs. Chas. Shorey. a talented and accomplished vocalist, she having studied under some of the best of American and European masters. Hear this in mind for it promises to be a rare treat. R. W. Curtis left Thursday morning for Glenwood Springs in the hopes that the baths there will favorably affect his health. He will leave for Denver on the 15th where he will meet Mrs. Curtis and his brother and wife, when all will leave for Florida on a hunting expedition. R. Binford re turned to her home Monday morning. Isham Stephens, father of Mrs. S. A. Wade, started for San Di ego, Calif., Tuesday morning, after an extended visit at his daughter's home. Rogers returned from Denver the last of the week. He reports Earl as not able to be up yet and Mrs. Rogers as improv ing very much in her general health. Her eyesight, however seems to be gone. This is a most sad affliction not only to her but to the relatives and her many friends. The carpenters are making a fine showing on the inside finish of the Christian church. The pul pit and pipe organ platform are built. The auditorium windows are cased up and look fine. The workmen are now casing up the large beams and woodwork of the ceiling. Word is telephoned us that a call is being numerousely signed for a meeting of citizens of Delta and Montrose counties to organ ize a permanent association to forward the work of constructing an enduring monument to Hon. C. M. Hammond on the county line of Montrose and Delta coun ties. The call is for a meeting at Olathe on Saturday, January 10, at one o’clock p. m. Copies of the call are being circulated at Montrose, Olathe, Delta, Hotch kiss and this place. We hope the copy here will receive liberal sig natures and that a large attend ance will be had at the meeting from here. W. R. Kreutzer, of the Forest Service, was in town sevaral days this week and paid this office-a pleasant call. He was gathering statistics regarding the early set tlement here and also looking over this part of the reserve. He inspected the Minnesota reservoir while here and paid a high com pliment to R. J. Decker on the manner of its construction. He says it is the very best constructed reservoir he has seen in the moun tains and that is certainly a high recommend as he has observed several. J. K. Hester is conducting a class each Wednesday evening in Crook’s hall in training for ser vice. A systematic study of the Bible. There is a good interest. The subject next Wednesday will be Eight Reasons Why I Believe Christ to be the Son of God. The young people of the Ep worth League will give a social evening next Tuesday, Jan. 11th at Crook’s hall. F. hall Thursday evening for the benefit of the church which was well attended. We have changed depot agents again, Mr. Rector who has been acting as agent until a permanent agent could be secured left for Avon, Colo., and a Mr. Lewis has taken charge at this station. Mrs. Fannie Borum and daugh ter Fern accompanied by Miss Emma Bruce and little Helen Hufty will leave tomorrow morn ing for a three months' visit at San Diego, Cal., and other coast points. Word reaches us to the effect that Mrs. Ellis Mormon, mother of Mrs. E. E. Bryan, formerly of this place, passed away at the family residence in Alamagordo, N. M., a little over a week ago. Many of our people will remem ber Mrs. Mormon and will extend their hea'tfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives. Last Sunday the little six-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Ballard passed away alter a year’s illness with diabetis. The funeral was held from the Friends church on Tuesday at 11 o’clock a. m„ Rev. Cash speaking a few com forting words to the bereaved ones, after which the remains were laid to rest in the south side cemetery.
