Get your tickets early. Tickets on sale at the drug store. We had the pleasure, or other wise of listening to.a political harrangue Wednesday night by Senator DeLong of Grand Jun ction. The Senator paced the floor aud grew vociferously elo quent in denouncing the trusts and Democrats and in eulogising John B. Stephens for governor and James C. Bunger for Con gress. While denouncing the trusts he failed to mention that he voted for Senator Guggen heim, (of the monopyly smelter trust) for United States Senator, he also failed to ‘‘point with pride’’ to the fact-that John B. Stephens and James C. Bunger also voted for Mr. Guggenheim. Why did he withold this infor mation from his hearers? There| was a mighty good reason why, and. we honestly question the right'of any man to set himself up as a guide to public honesty of thought and action who coun tenanced and supported by his vate the election of Simon Gug genheim. ~ This is too recent to be forgotten. Such a man we consider ,utterl& unfit to teach To the editor of the Arvada Enterprise. — “Inasmuch as there appeared in the Peoples Pressand the Golden Globe a two column article la menting that I did not tell all I knew about the affairs of the As sessor’s o.‘zce, and since they did not attempt to answer or in any way overthrow my state ments, but sought rather to ac count for some items mentioned, please allow me; through your paf)er, to explain somewhat also n one short article it is impos sible to say all that the people are entitled to know and even now I will not ask for space to say all that I wish the people might know., So far as this land in question is concerned, it is one of the | most tangled affairs in the county and too long a story to explain here, suffice to say that after all |rebates have heen allowed, it is now bringing in more revenue than it has for many years back. The yacation deed we are acused of ignon‘ng in 1909 was filed for |record on October Brd 1910, book 1165, page 323. | Thg excuse made for Lewis and Newcomb for not putting in a card system free of all cost to | the county except for cards ‘and filing cases seems to us very flimsy as these things cost so little. Our land slip. cases cost |just $2.25 and the card boxes were made by a local carpenter. The maps and charts in our | possession which are valuable to | this office were not taken from |the clerk’s offiice, neither are they duplicated there. | As for the extra expense in this office, without looking up an item let us take their figures but [please compare the expense with |the expense of the clerk’s office at the same period. Now I know ||that this is hard to do for the |reason that the clerk’s report | does not show what the receipts 101‘ expenses of that office are. _[We know this, however, that |during Mr.Newcombs last term, |the clork, with one deputy did || the work of the clerk,s office, |\ now it keeps four persons busy. |lf the work of that office is 1| doubled why is it unreasonable »|that the expense in the assess _lor’'s ofTice should be inecreased f a'so. for increased work in the ..clerk’s office means incregsed t work in the assessor’s office. i CHARLES H; EASLEY, 1 ARVADA, COLORABO, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1910 Facts. Jefferson County Finah “-i Editor of Arvada Enterprise, - “‘Fjgures do not lie buk diars will fjlgure." This is abso ately proved by figures gl yen by both| the Globe and the People 8% 58~§ They wish to make IGE@ppear that the county is deeperiiiidebt by three times than thesounty’ was when the Democrats® ij charge. Here are a few it r,esl that may interest the taxpayers. Outstanding warrants e m'i iw% SR War- | rants allowed by the oldgboard Jan. 4th 1909 which wastheir last meetin% $8,604.05; edntract for the celebrated Bluffaiiidze, $5,740.00, bills allowed the new board that were coOnSse 6d| during 1908, $65.00, makisgt: hel total — indebtedness | $4BE80:01. How does that compar@iwith $17,317.31, the statementifi the Glohe and Press? . To prove which boletl is really extravagant, read i fol lowing: During 1908 the old board issued warrants #8 the amount of $79,512.70 oni#f ap propriation of $75,000.00%0F $4.- 512.70 more than approptiated. And, as shown above, they#pent $14,409.05 of the 1909 Sppro priation' before they lef§i If they were really anziousito do the right thing, why didn’§they leave the awarding of thebridge contract to the new board;¥now ing that they would be sworn in i side of a few days? & | ~ The total nd:btedness @f the ‘county when the Democrats took charge was $45,060.91. ' The in-) ‘ecbtcdr.ess today is $42 " al-| ‘most three thousand do ars less than at the close of the Républi can adniristration. Besides the ‘Dcmocrats spent ten thousand| dcllars for permanent improve-| ments while the Republicans did not spend one dollar £ »per-f manent improvement of ' any kind. e ing 1908" wa5d'52,230.60" OXlpe: the district attorney and his dig uty got $793.35, more than g third. The district court ek pense for 1909 was $4,161.41, al most doubled, while our Demg: cratic district attorney and hig deputy drew only $538.10, 275.25 less with four times as many convictions. Further, during the first six months of 1910 the dis trict court expense amounted to $4,862.05. This will show you,Mr. Tax payer, between the real facts, and figures published by the Re publican press, - where some of your money is going. Further, some of these Repub lican papers are giving a com parison of expenditures during eighteen months of Democratic rule and eighteen months of Re publican rule. Insteadof giving the last eighteen months of Re publican rule they give thefirst eighteen months of the last term, Why this juggling of figures? Why do-they cfiarge the $14,474. 05 against the Democrats when it was spent by the Republicans? That it fias cost more, and does cost more from year to year, is very natural and the present ad ministration has more to show for the money sgent during the two years past than the Repub licans have for all the years they have been in power. = - The only two stee' bridges they built on Clear Cr.ck were built on the sand inste:d of on bed rock as specified m the con tract, and the present board-hadt tospend S3BOO additional build ing abutments under these two bridges; spent SI3OO putting in a steam ‘heating plant in the court house and what Republicang would dare criticise their actiop? In round numbers the present board has spent about two'nty thousand dollars on perny.nent improvements which is Iwenty thousand dollars more #han the Republicans ever spent, judici ousaly of on permanent, improve | ment of anykind. Very truly vours, F. A. EICKHOFF, County Treasurer, If Henry W. Hill, who is the mayor of our. sister town Moun tain View, is elected to the office of Clerk and Recorder, we shall {have a man who will attend strictly to his business. He is |Ju§t the man to fill the bill and will make an exce lent officer, Political Rallies in Arvada.
