He was in the Windy City for the tag end of the big Republican convention and was lucky enough to get in to see the "doings”, just in time to be present at the nomination of James S. Sherman for Vice President. An extended account of the convention proceedings may be found in this issue, and our readers may know that Mr. Randel thought himself very fortunate in being able to witness part of the nationally important affair. The Ladies Aid Society of Newdale will hold a lawn social at the home of Mrs. Erricson on Thursday evening, July 2. Ice cream and cake will be served. Everybody invited. During the past week the dread angel of death has been busy within the ranks of the old veterans of the civil war, and in the short space of three days the mem bers of Wadsworth Post, G. A. R., have conveyed to the silent tomb two of their comrades and the life’s helpmate of an other. JOHN O’CONNOR At the home of hie daughter, Mrs. Finley Hayes, in Holbrook, John O'Con nor passed away last Friday, aged 77 years and 7 months. The old gentleman was well and favorably known in this city, where he had resided for many years. About three years ago he was stricken with blindness, and this with his other afflictions made the last roll call to him a welcome sound. The funeral was held from Sprinker’s chapel on Saturday afternoon, the last rites being held at the grave in Valley View cemetery by Wads worth Post, G. A. R. N. V. WILLARD Nathaniel Willard, or -Unde Nat"as he was familiarly known to his many friends in this city, died at the home of hie son Edward in Fowler on Saturday, after a short illness. Deceas ed was aged 86 years and 4 months. Until a couple of years ago, when he moved to the home of hie daughter, Mrs. D. E. Barnes, in Pueblo, he had for long been a resident of Rocky Ford, and the remains were brought to this city for in terment Funeral services were held in the Methodist church on Tuesday mom iny by Rev. S. C. Green, and a large con course of sincerly mourning friends fol lowed the remains to the cemetery, where services were conducted by Wads worth Post G. A. R. Every old veteran who could get out was present to pay a last tribute of respect to their departed comrade. Four children —three sons and one daughter—survive him, and to them is extended the sincere sympathy of all who knew “Uncle Nat” ETTA WASHBURN At her home in La Junta on Sunday morning there passed away a lady who was widely known and highly esteemed in this city—Mrs. C. C. Washburn. With her husband and family the deceased came to Rocky Ford from Phillips county about seventeen years ago and this place was her home until a couple of years ago when she went to La Junta to reside with her daughter, Mrs. Henry Adsmond. Deceased was 68 years of age and her death was due to paralysis. The funeral services were conducted in Rocky Ford Methsdist church on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. R. H. Ayres of La Junta and were attended by large numbers of Odd fellows and Rebekahs, the G. A. R. and W. R. C. and many friends. The re mains were consigned to their last rest ing place in Valley View cemetery with the affecting ceremony of Violet Rebekah Lodge. To the sorrowing husband and relatives the heartfelt condolence of their large circle of friends is extended. FLOSSIE M’PHAIL Ouick consumption claimed a victim in this city yesterday morning, in the person of Miss Flossie McPhail, a young lady aged 18 years. The deceased had re sided in Rocky Ford but a couple of months, having come here from her Can adian home in the illusive hope that the dread disease might be checked.
