Four furlongs, running—Silver Bov. Deerfoot and Nellie Wells. Time 53 sec Five-eights mile dash—Armondo, J. C. and Mafada. Time, 1:04^. The 2>£-mile relay race was won by Philip Yant’s string. Watermelon Day: 2:18 Pace—Easter Coin, first; Ellen Douglas, second; Carl Fits, third. Time. 2:19. Gentlemens’ driving race, % mile Sheriff. Freddie M. T. and Gypsy B. Time, 1:26 The Watermelon Derby was won bv Hi. Armondo, with Mrs. Edgar up, the first time that a lady rider has won in competition with male jockeys. The cowgirl’s relay race was won by Mrs. Juanita Edgar, who was also the winner of the girl’s half-mile race, with Mrs. Fowler second aad Louise Taylor third. The relay race was again won by Philip Yant’s string. In planning for the biggest day’s recination in 191 G the peo p’e of the Arkansas Valley, as they have fof many years past, made arrangements to come to Rocky Ford on Watermelon Day and so get all the enjoyment for themselves and family that could well he crowded within the few short hours of oue day. They well knew that the comfort and pleasure we get out of life is about the only investment that is cer tain of results, aud so they invest ed in Watermelon Day at the Ar kansas Valley Fair, and now nothing can rob them of tl e pleasant aud profitable memories of a day well spent. All day long and each day of the fair so far—and it will also bo the case today—admiring crowds moved thru the fine arts aud other buildings, horticultural aud agri cultural halls and among the well filled stock pens and stalls. Those who were here for the first time were astonished at the displays iu the various departments aud were impressed with tho fact that Colorado is especially strong in agriculture.
