Evangelist Daly, who is to con duct revival meetings at the Bap tist church, has been supposed by some to be the lecturer, who, as a former Catholic priest, spoke in this city some months ago and dealt so harshly with the Church of Rome as to offend protestants and C alike. He is, how -1 ever, not the same man. While | he is like the other in the fact that he was once a catholic priest, he is very unlike him in spirit. He comes to La junta, not to discuss \ questions of church difference, but |to preach as an evangelist. He is in it with such earnestness that no 1 one can doubt his sincerity. His ; first sermon w ill be at the Baptist church tomorrow morning. Every body cordially invited. Dr. Slocum, president of Colo rado College, will deliver the sec ond lecture in the University course Jan. 21, 1898. His subject will be “Achievement.” This lecture has been delivered in Denver and was specially prepared for an address at Amherst College. The good people of La Junta can expect a iterary treat at this time. - M. tin... When b man breaks down with that dread disease, consumption, and recognizes ; his condition, he starts out to fish for ! health. He tries this thing and that thing. He consults this doctor and that doctor. He indulges in all kinds of absurd athletic exercises. He tries first one climate and then another. He tries the rest cure and the work cure. He grows steadily worse. That is the story of most consumptives. Pinally, when the consumptive dies, the doctor shrugs his shoulders and pronounces consumption incurable. A thirty years' test of Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Dis covery has demonstrated that it cures oB per cent, of all cases of consumption, if taken in the earlier stages of the disease, before the lungs are too far wasted. In a consumptive there is a weaker spot than even the lungs. That spot is the stomach. A consumptive never really begins to die nntil his stomach givea oat. The "Golden Medical Discovery" not only braces np the stomach, bat acta directly on the lungs, healing them and driving out all impurities. Honest medicine dealers will not urge yon to take an inferior substitute. " 1 had a very bad eoogb. also night sweats, and was almost in my grave with consumption," writes Mrs. Oars A. There never waaaaj can taka lfea& Deafness Cannot Be Cured By local applications, as they j cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed condition : ot the mucous lining of the eus tachiao tube. When this tube gets inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed deafness is the result, and unless the inflam mation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condi tion, hearing will be destroyed for ever. Nine cases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces. We will give One Hundred Dollars for any case of deafness caused by catarrh that cannot he enred by Hall’s Catarrh Cure. Send (or free circnlars. jF. J. Cheney & Co., Toledo, Ohio. The fond mother of three chil dren was obliged to remonstrate with her oldest boy, because in the child's game he would always take the lead and assign subordi nate positions to his little brother and sister. The boy promised not to be selfish in the future. A few days later the mother, happening into the nursery, saw the two younger children engaged in ama teur theatricals. The older boy stood aside with arms folded mood ily, watching them. “We are playing Adam anil Eve,” said the youngsters. The mother was much gratified, as she supposed that jin this instance, at least, the hoy had allowed the brother the principal role. She turned to the silent fig ure in the corner, about to pra se him. “Who are you?" she askld. “God," was the answer. Church Notes. Baptist—Services both ntornibg and evening by Evangelist J. B. There were 2400 marriage li censes issued in Denver last year as against 243 divorces granted. Marriages appear to have been a hot thing in Denver. Superintendent of Schools M. E. Biggs returned on No. 6 Thursday night lrom Denver, where he had been attending the annual meeting of the Colorado State Teachers’ Convention. Look at the slip on your paper and see how you stand with the Tribune. Remember this is the first of tlie year, and the proprie tors have a few bills that are due and payable. The dog poisoner is abroad in the land again, making a repetition of his periodical visit. William Leroy is the latest sufferer, having lost a valuable pug pup yesterday, which he prized very highly. The Tribune is hedged about —not like a king, but with a free public corrall. There is no chance henceforth for any of the animals of this office to escape. Like the Tribune, they are here to stay. William Leroy has a force of men engaged in the construction of his free public corrall, and it is probable that it will be in opera tion early next week. The corrall is provided with sheds for the shelter of teams and a hydrant and watering trough has been placed in the southeast corner. The use of the corrall is entirely free to the general public, and will be a bonanza for the farmers when vis iting the county seat. Guard your kidneys; the health of the body depends on those small but important organs. They ex tract uric acid from the blood which if allowed to remain in the system would cause dropsy and Bright's disease. Prickly Ash Bitters is a successful kidney tonic, it heals and strengthens the kidneys, regu lates the liver, stimulates the stom ach digestion, cleanses the bowels. It will prevent or cure Bright’s di sease. Price SI.OO per bottle. La Junta needs a produce ex change or a commission house that will be ready and willing to buy every pound of produce brought to the city by the farmers. It is the only legitimate plan to capture the trade that rightly be longs to us. Farmers, who natur ally prefer to trade at the county seat, patronize the merchants of adjoining towns for the reason that they are always able to dis pose of their produce at a reason able figure. To-day is the second anniversary of Mr. Charles D. Parks’ connec tion with the La Junta Tribune. Under his management the Trib une has grown and prospered, and is now the best paying newspaper property in the Arkansas Valley. It is the intention of the present management to make the Tribune of the future a model of newspaper excellence, both in subject matter and typographical appearance. It believes in the future of La Junta, and first, last and all the time pro poses to do everything its power to advance the interests of our fair little city. La Junta’s interests and the interests of the Tribune are identical. A well known farmer attempt ed to kill both his wife and child. Marly during the morning he was about the viu luge streets, declaiing that he would kill his wife and children. In the afternoon a neighbor heard the man's wife screaming, and running to the house found the woman on the lloor almost unconscious and badly braised from the beating she had. received at her husband’s hands. Her husband was not in the house and as the neighbor was leaving, he heard screams coming from the back yard. Running back, lie found tlie insane man dragging his little girl toward the chopping-block, telling her he was going to chop her head ofT with an axe. The neighbor tore the child from him and later he was placed in the costody of a constable. The following morning the man had recovered his sanity and express ed amazement when told what he had done. Despondency over the poor results of work on liis farm bad made a temporary lunatic of him. It is almost impossible nowadays to pick up a newspaper without reading a story like this. Modern business competition and the universal greed for more money cause men to overwork and overworry at the expense of their health. Too little at tention is paid to ill-health. A man isn’t supposed to be sick until he in sick abed. As a matter of fact, a man may be a very sick man —a dangerously sick man —and go about liis ordinary avocations for some time. Tlie right time to treat sickness is before, not after a man is flat on his back. When a man shows that he is worrying over his work and the results of it, when he suffers from headaches, nervousness and despondency, when lie is restless and olecnless at night and loses his appetite, he is sick and it is time for him to take the riglitrflpcdicine. All thr*c conditions and symptoms are the result of insufficient and improper nourishment, aggravated by over work and overworry. If a man’s body is properly and sufficiently nourished it is al most an impossibility to overwork him, and worry will not harm him. There is a marvelous medicine for hard working men who arc on the down-grade to some serious physicist or nervous ail ment. It is Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery. It corrects faults of nutrition. It gives a man the appetite lie had when he was a boy. It invigorates the liver, strengthens tlie stomach and increases the flow of digestive Juices. It aids assimila tion and fills tlie blood with the life-giving elements that build new, firm flesh tissues in all parts of the body. It tones and builds ut) the enfeebled nerve fibers and brain cells. It makes rich, red blood and is the greatest of all flesh builders. It does not make corpulent people more cor pulent, but builds solid, muscular flesh without raising the weight above the nor mal figure. It gives sweet, refreshing sleep and cures nearly all nervous and mental troubles. It cures 9S per cent, of all cases of consumption if taken in the earlier stages of that fatal malady. This great medicine is for sale by all good medi cine dealers. An honest dealer will not urge you to take some inferior substitute for a medicine of world-wide repute, in or der to make a few pennies added profit “I take great pleasure in telling of the benefit I have derived from the use of Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery,” writes Mr. C. J. McNaney. of Stillwater. Washington Co.. Minn. "In the spring of 1884 I was taken ill with consumption, and after trying everything I could hear of and doctoring all Bummer my physician said I had consumption, aud thet ray left lung was nearly gone and that I could live but a short time. About twelve bottles of Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery brought m• out all right, and I am cured." fa In “Tlie People's Common Senae Med ical Adviser," many forma of "female complaint," with the methods by which they are permanently cared, are described.
