Foster of Wolfe creek, who was raised in the northern part of AlalratnA, after thirty live years returned to his na tive state and s|>ent last winter there ac companied by his wife. In speaking of Alabama Mr. Foster does not speak in glowing terms of the progress of the "Land of the Lizard" since he left it, hut on the other hand said it had turned backward. He said farmers were still breaking their ground with one horse hitched to a bull-tongue plow, and that in all farm houses you could hear the hum of the spinning wheel and the clash of the hand loom, and on entering the building you would find some of the women busily engaged in hand-carding rolls of wool to be spun into yarn, and that all the primitive methods of fifty years ago were still in use. He said he would not live in Alabama if he were given half the state, and thinks stronger ; than over that Colorado is the greatest! -tate in the Union. Elizabeth Banner. NOTICE.
