A Gleam of Summer Sunlight A Sure
’Nuf Hurry Up Train Between
Chicago and Kansas City.
The new train on the Chicago, Mil
waukee A St. Paul Railway passed
through Chula for the first time Sunday
night, about three hours after dark.
There was no hesitation at Chula town,
at least none perceptible. Thero are no
high places in Chula town, hence we
question whether she touched the track.
She just ripped a great Hory hole in tho
darkness and left the atmosphere heated
steam hot for a second, then whistled
for Ninntic or Chicago we are not certain
which. If “Central" had not been closed
we woultl hnve telephoned to Chicago
to see if she hadn't run clean through
the Union Station. She is sure 'nuf a
“hurry-up train." Chicago isonlv about
three miles up the track now. She is a
gleam of summer sunlight, vestibulod
and electric lighted from the cowcatcher
clean buck a hundred yards behind the
last coach. She is knee deep with velvet
carpets, nnd her cushions are ns soft ns
a girl’s cheek. She is lighted to a daz
zle and heated to a frazzle. She was
! built to beat the world nnd her gorgeous
splendor makes us chuckle to think we
linvo a pass on her. She goes so fast
that the six porters look like one big fat
nigger. She is called “The Southwest
I Limited." She sto|>s, going both ways,
I at Chillicothe, and you can get on her
there, but, you’ll hnve to hurry. The

Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Phillips have re
turned from their California visit and
are visiting In Colorado Springs.
James Knight has returned to his
ranch from Denver, where he has l>ecn
enployed since early in tho winter.
W. C. Whiting has so far recovered
from his recent illness that he is able to
be up and around the house again.
Since the Fondis cheese factory shut
down ninny dairymen living in that local
ity are hauling their milk to Elbert.
Otto Wisco and John Wheeler return
ed Sunday from Boulder county, whoro
they have been employed for some
months.
An epidemioof distemper and epizootic
is raging among the horses of this local
ity, and many animals have died from
the disease.
Miss Anna Russell and niece, Miss
Williams, of the Cherry creek locality,
were Elbert visitors this week, guests of
Mrs. B. Grebe.
A good sized, orderly crowd attended
the Redmen dance Monday night, a num
her bei.ig present from Kiowa and Fondis.
Thirty-six numbers were sold.
Rev. A. Jay Garrison of Denver will
preach at tho James school house next
Sunday morning and evening. Every
one invited to Httend these services.
Mrs William Leach returned from
Colorado Springs Saturday, where she
has Been making an extended visit with
her daughter, Mrs. Maggie Peterson.
There will be preaching at the Elbert
Presbyterian church next Sunday morn
ing und evening by Dr. Williams, pastor
of the Hyde Park church at Denver.
Fred Dittemore went to Colorado
Springs Friday, and rumor has it that he
will go from the Springs to St. Joseph,
Mo., and will bring his bride with him
when he returns.
Jacob Epler was in Denver last Thurs
day and Friday, and we understand he
is now authority on tho latest styles in
Hilk hats. Jake is the only man in Elbert
who sports a silk tile.

While the Tribune cannot help but
appreciate the many flattering compli
ment* that hnve been given to it, still
more substantial appreciation would
naturally como from the fact that every
merchant and business man in Elbert
was an advertising patron of the paper.
There is nothing that speaks more favor
ably for a town than a liberally patron
ized pnper. There is not a businessman
in tins town who would nut receive sub
stantial returns from nn advertisement
in tho paper, as well ns helping tho en
tire communty along broad-guaged lines.
And then again, every man. woman and
child in this county should religiously
subscribe for and read tho home paper
each week, thus keeping abreast of the
times. You owe it to yourself and tho
community of which you are a part.

church, Denver, at Elbert Presbyterian

speaker. Tho lecture is an epitome of
Southern life and highly commended by
